I don’t miss the things that I miss. I don’t have the time to chase after TV shows or watch everything I can find. I have Netflix and Amazon with a free trial of Shudder right now (yeah, OK I went chasing a movie). If it weren’t for the wife and kids, I’d cut the cable and maybe add a few more services.
What I don’t like about streaming is the death of the social aspect of TV watching. It isn’t common anymore to talk to people about the episode of the week around the water cooler or in your favorite forum. People are not necessarily watching programming at the same time/pace, so we are losing that communal experience. Look at the TV threads here. Very few shows are getting episode threads and traffic is down. Sure, DVR caused some of that, but binge watching/streaming are the bigger problem.

You haven't been around long, but this forum was much more active probably 10 years ago before streaming became so prevalent. On any given there were sometimes hundreds of posts for the latest episode of a popular TV show.
Now. we're lucky to get 10-15 comments on any given day.

This site has also seen major declines in active posters as well being thats its over 20 years old now. What once was a 20x a day thing for me is an afterthought of maybe once or twice a week.

More choices doesn't necessarily mean better TV, as that's the great fallacy in this 'golden age' of TV that everyone talks about. There is ALOT of shit out there and mediocre shows, as I sometimes can't find anything I'm interested in watching and will go weeks/months before I get into another show. I'm not saying TV was better before streaming as each one had their great and bad shows. I think there were more great sitcoms back in the day, as I can't think of one sitcom that I even watch today (other then It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia). The Dramas are better today simply because the streaming model/binge watching allows them to tell continuous stories as fans can start from Episode 1 whenever they want. But I pretty much watch the same amount of TV shows that I watched 10, 20, 30 years ago because there are only a few select great shows out there, and the rest is mediocre or crappy.
Right now, the shows I really care about: Stranger Things, Ozark, The Crown, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Man in the High Castle, Homeland and Game of Thrones. 20 years ago in 1999 I was watching The Sopranos, King of Queens, Party of Five, Everyone Loves Raymond, Just Shoot Me, and Friends. The only difference is the TV landscape was more Sitcom-heavy in that day.

I have nothing against streaming, but I am already overwhelmed with content. There are only so many hours in the day. It makes skipping most streaming venues a fairly easy decision for me. Even anime, which is almost a necessity to stream if you want to keep up, doesn't tempt me very much these days.
Most streaming "hits" will eventually migrate off their platforms, either by cable or physical media.

It almost feels like I'm being almost forced into buying their service.
Just think about how much content they control (Pixar, Marvel, and soon Fox)...
