Re: The Masked Singer (FOX) -- celebrity singing game show

The weird thing is, it's not even much of a game show. Like there are new characters coming next week, how does that work? Did they get a bye? Not that guessing who they are plays any part in how this "game" works.

There is nobody in the world who would have guessed that first one, but only because of how relatively obscure he was (at least in terms of familiarity with the audience in anything but name). Like if Nick Cannon didn't say his name would the panel even have known who he was by his face?

I think the new characters are just one off performances in costume. They have to fill the time as they start getting eliminated.

Antonio Brown has had a lot of recent drama around him, so actually maybe. The timing was pretty perfect.

After seeing the ratings I'm sure there are a few folks that turned down this ridiculous concept that are kicking themselves. Or maybe not.

I don't think so, there are a total of 12 masked celebrities and 10 episodes in this show. That's one elimination per episode and a 3 way finale, which sounds about right.

Didn't know it was 10 episodes or, thought it was six for some reason. Also didn't read that there are twelve contestants.

Yeah you're likely correct.

Yeah, the rabbit is basically in a ton of promo shots, so I doubt he (or she) is a guest star.

You know, when AB was revealed part of me was wondering if he staged a lot of this controversy to kind of play up his celebrity. The other odd thing is, when the heck did he train for this, and was this part of what got his teammates upset at him? Did they grab him after the Steelers playoffs were dashed, because if not and they were still in contention, him being focused on this nonsense and refusing to practice would certainly anger me if I were his teammate.

From what I've read, it was filmed pre-season, during the Summer.

I'm thinking that we probably get 6 all new characters next week, and then they start to mix them up after that.

Re: The Masked Singer (FOX) -- celebrity singing game show

Finally got around to watching the show this morning from the DVR. I'm nut sure if this more a Costume contest than a Singing contest. You can barely hear what the singers sound like. A obvious rip off of the Korean Variety show right down to the bodyguards. Only problem the contestants in the Korean show only wear mask & outfits but nothing what you see on the American show. They are being judge for their singing & that is it.

You can see some short clips on You Tube.

Ah. That seems weird, I wasn't really paying attention but there's absolutely no at-home audience participation?

Also, they played up the "security" they had around these performers and how they kept everything under wraps even during rehearsals, but anybody in the audience could potentially leak the identities of the celebs early, so why bother? Or is the last part live?

I guess it makes sense, though, because if the Steelers had made the playoffs, Brown would've been in even deeper trouble.

They encouraged you to tweet your choices, but there was nothing that said the at home audience's vote would be counted for anything. In fact there was a couple of times that they completed the singing and revealed the winner in the same segment, so there was really no time for a vote to be counted, even if it was live, which it's not.

Damn, he's 80? Man that makes me feel old.

I was assuming the Raven was Ricki Lake.

That Tommy Chong one was easy as hell.

Ohh, good guess on Ricki Lake.

The Bee was hella good. Diane Warwick was a good guess their but not sure it was her.

Instead of Dionne Warwick, I thought of Tina Turner. But then I looked her up and both of them are pushing 80, not sure they could pull that off.

The comment was that she started singing in the 50s, which is about right for both of them.

Good point. Reading up further, Turner is in pretty bad shape health-wise, scratch her off the list.

The Bee has got to be Gladys Knight. That’s my guess.

My wife and I think The Rabbit is either Nick Carter, JC Chavez, or some other member of a 2000s-era Boy Band.

Was The Bee the one that said she had a talk show at one time?

No, that was The Raven (who people are thinking is Rikki Lake).

Re: The Masked Singer (FOX) -- celebrity singing game show

I try to temper my guesses (unlike the show's panel) by who might actually turn up on or need to be on a "Reality Show". For example, anyone who's been on "Dancing With The Stars" is viable in my mind.

Re: The Masked Singer (FOX) -- celebrity singing game show

Yeah, that's why the judge guesses are so absurd. You know what the show is, they know what the show is. Nobody that demands a high minimum appearance fee is going to be there -- plus there's no point in risking being shown up by others.

Re: The Masked Singer (FOX) -- celebrity singing game show

The judges "guesses" are probably the most absurd part of the show... Jenny McCarthy, while getting Tommy Chong right, usually guess A-list celebrities or guys when it's clearly a woman singing; or vice versa. She drives me nuts.

Re: The Masked Singer (FOX) -- celebrity singing game show

My guesses

DEER: CHRIS JERICHO
competitive
always considered himself a singer (sings for Fozzy)
hard for people to get around what he's known for (wrestling)
knocked down many times
however, he's been trolling this theory on twitter so it may be a swerve

PEACOCK: COREY FELDMAN
also considers himself a singer
been on stage since 5 years old
michael jackson was a dear friend
today's mom had posters of him on their walls

RAVEN: CARNIE WILSON
overweight
"loves to talk" - had a tv talk show

MONSTER: THE GUY IN MILLI VANILLI THAT'S STILL ALIVE OR VANILLA ICE
had an 80s/90s vibe
was at top of the game but the game (industry) turned against him
took a break from public eye
