"MANIFEST" "PILOT" ORIGINAL 09/24/2018 (10:00PM - 11:00PM) (Monday) : Returning to New York from a family vacation in Jamaica, the Stone family is separated when adult siblings Michaela (Melissa Roxburgh) and Ben (Josh Dallas), along with Ben's gravely ill son Cal (Jack Messina), are bumped to a later flight, while Ben's wife, daughter and parents fly ahead. When that later flight lands, the passengers are bewildered to discover that five and a half years have gone by. They attempt to reconnect with the loved ones who mourned their passing and moved on long ago, and try to make sense of a mystifying phenomenon steering them to act in ways they don't understand. Also starring Athena Karkanis (Grace Stone), J.R. Ramirez (Jared Vasquez), Luna Blaise (Olive Stone) and Parveen Kaur (Saanvi Bahl). re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
Yeah, I’m definitely getting an The Event 2.0 vibe from this one. Even similar to a show that was on, I think this past summer, where refuges from the future turned up on a beach. The idea sounds interesting, but the trailers haven’t even been that good.
And oh my gosh. How has it been 8 years since The Event premiered?! And yes, sounds like it’s all kinds of weak. https://tvline.com/2018/09/23/manifest-review-nbc-sci-fi-drama-premiere-josh-dallas/ |
re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
Highly interested in this one. Love unique shows like this, instead of your standard cop, lawyer, and doctor shows.

re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
Hope it's decent, previews look pretty good

re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
I thought the 15 minutes of the pilot they had online was interesting enough for me to tune in and finish it.
|
re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
Teaser intrigued me, set youtubeTV to record it.

re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
this smells like a show that will have a great pilot, then be tediously bad, then have a great finale ending on a cliffhanger that will never be resolved due to its inevitable cancellation.

re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
I wasn't planning on watching but fuck it, i'll record it and check it out. I have a very limited new show schedule this year, so why not.

re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
Oooooh, now that was an interesting pilot. I didn’t watch any trailers or commercials, so I was expecting a plane crash and a small part of it being a LOST ripoff, but nope.
I’m sold. The cast seems all right so far, but I’m definitely sticking around for more. |
re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
I agree MLBFan24...this was a real win for me and I am in. I just will hope for the best, that is the show runners not making things up the second before each ep airs, and that this type of show can gain enough eyeballs so at least a dozen eps make it to air.

I thought there'd be a little more of the "wow the world has changed in five years" but they only briefly touched on it with the "got rid of our landline" thing. Not even a "who's president now?" mention. |
re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
So they only quarantined the people on the plane a few days then just let them go back to their lives? You'd think they'd do a lot more testing on them and keep them longer. Also, they just leave the plane sitting out and not in some hanger somewhere to analyze?
Also they didn't really show the public and media reaction to such an event. Wouldn't the passengers being doing the talk show circuit? |

Obviously a lot of stuff is "moving the plot" related, like the plane being out where they could easily see it blowing up, the dad not talking to his son about hearing voices once he figures out others probably can, the passengers not really banding together in some kind of support group before they all gathered together, etc. |
re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
I thought it was pretty good. I think it is a limited premise though. I'll keep watching for now.

re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
Note to self. If your inner-voice is going to talk to you... try to be more specific. :)

I just assumed it was her mother's voice from beyond and she was limited to two words per message. Like she ended up with a crappy afterlife messaging plan. |
re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
I can't recognize one person in the cast.

re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
Those are some obscure references. I assume the producers think the theme or story is more important then casting stars in the show.
|
re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
In for cancellation!
With concepts like this, I would prefer a mini or extended series. I want to see more than a movie yet after a dozen episodes it will be spinning it's wheels a bit to just end on a cliffhanger to maybe get renewed. I can't recognize one person in the cast. |
re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
I liked it. Sets up some interesting things.
I guess these "survivors" have some psychic ability after their return from wherever they went. I'm really surprised that they gave a fairly unknown Canadian actress (Melissa Roxburgh) top billing on this show. I've seen her in guest spots here and there, but it didn't cross my mind she could be the lead of her own show. Not surprised at all that Ben's wife is seeing someone. I hope that the network and creators of this show will realize this is not the kind of show/premise that will work with a long 22 episode season. If it does well enough to warrant more, I'd like to see them pick it up for maybe 4-5 more episodes tops. Serialized mythology shows like this simply don't work with the standard long network season. And yeah I know most here don't trust serialized network shows longevity, so you're just waiting to see if this catches on with the masses. |

after all if Malaysia Flight 370 just popped back up right now like in this show would anyone really believe it did not just land and hide out for the last few years? Kid? Fake.. People look the same age? Only been 5 years etc. anyways, as others have said it's really tough to commit to a mystery show in today's modern network tv environment where stuff gets canceled in a heartbeat. |
re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
The usual problem with these shows is the showrunner's seems to think they need the structure:
Season 1 tease tease tease tease cliffhanger Season 2 explain tease explain tease twist Problem is it usually ends with Season 1 tease tease tease tease cliffhanger Cancelled. People who enjoyed the show get nothing and everyone else already dropped out. My thought to tell showrunners is, think up that perfect 2 seasons... and now condense it into your 1st season and then you might have something special and satisfying. We'll see if this one is any different. |

Curious, is that something that is supposed to matter?
I thought it was refreshing in a time where every name actor/actress is in at least 3 shows at once. |
re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
Finally finished watching the pilot off the dvr..
Starts off really interesting, ends really interesting but I found most of the stuff in the middle to be a little dull. About 2/3 of the ep is pure relationship and family fallout issues from a 5 year time gap and then 1/3 of the show is kind of a tacked we hear voices? Errrrrrr ok. I don't think it's going to be enough family drama for the people looking the next One of Us sort of show. Yet at the same time letting some dogs out, then coming back and oh hey lets look around isn't all that much mystery powers/crime fighting/helping people either. Just kind of a strange mix. Networks already tried plane + family + gaining super powers with the one and done "No Ordinary Family" from back in 2010, yet right now we are a heavy drama show cycle. So more focus on family, less on powers? Guess we wait and see what happens. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1591493/ |
re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
Really enjoyed this one, hope they keep it up, in for the season.

re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
I liked it, but it seems like it could go in one of 2 directions. The typical sci fi route I’m down for for now, but I’ll probably tune out if it turns into more of a religious/spiritual type thing. Either way, the extranormal stuff looks like it’ll likely take second priority to the relationships of the characters.
|
re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
I too feel like we could get roped into something that gets cancelled with no conclusion. But if we wait till the end we could end up with major developments getting spoiled. So we're in week to week given we love serialized "sci-fi" over the dozens of AARP targeted procedurals.

re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
I just caught up on the pilot. I enjoyed it, and realize pilots are made to get people hooked from the get-go, but man did that feel rushed. The pilot easily could have been spread over the first half of the season.
The most interesting aspect, the plane flight and being missing for 5 years, was practically forgotten 15 minutes in. They could have easily just given us a quick glimpse of the psychic stuff in the first episode and expanded on it later. |

re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
The pilot was surprisingly solid, if a bit aimed at a middle-of-the-road audience. The concept is broad enough they could turn the series into any number of tried-and-true TV formulas.
The only thing that bothered me was the woman getting mysterious flashes that guided her actions. It's the cheapest storytelling gimmick on episodic television and has practically become standard on many, many shows. |
re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
I really liked the first episode. I look forward to committing around 20 hours to it and having it cancelled on me by May.
|
re: Manifest (Now on Netflix)
We enjoyed it. It was confusing that the whole point of this was the missing 5 years and that seemed to be forgotten after 5 minutes. I'll DVR this and hopefully not get shafted like Timesless
