The new opening is lifted straight from Burn Notice. But then I always felt Burn Notice mirrored the original Magnum P.I.

Season 5’s 10 episodes just ended last week. TC got shot and was in the hospital recovering. Magnum and Higgins relationship was out to everyone a few weeks earlier. No cliffhanger, just a self contained season and ending.

Season 6 won’t be affected by the strike. I follow the writers on social media and they were shooting the seasons back to back.

I was under the impression that this was the Spring finale. The show was picked up for two 10 episode seasons which were later combined into one 20 episode season. Season 6 is still TBA.

Yeah I saw the scripts on social media. They were calling the later episodes like 511, 512, 515 etc. Anyway, the next 10 probably won’t air until Fall.

Edit: I see you’re right, instead of 2 seasons, it’s now just called season 5.

NBC announced their tentative Fall schedule last week and currently Magnum is not slated to return until midseason 2024. The last 10 episodes of season 5 are already filmed.

However, it the WGA runs long, it could move up to Fall.

Canceled again. The last half of season 5 (10 episodes) will be it for the show. The cast contracts are up next week and NBC didn't seem to want to order another season now with the WGA strike, so that's why they passed.

I know this show was never popular here except for some passive interest from a few Hawai'i lovers. But, it did get better after the 1st season and became a guilty pleasure for me, especially seeing beautiful Hawai'i every week. The cast developed really good chemistry.

Now with this cancellation there will be no more shows filmed in the state of Hawai'i for the 1st time since 2010 if I'm not mistaken. The show wrapped filming this "Final" season last year.

isn’t there a NCIS Hawaii?

Yes I completely forgot about that. For some reason I just kept thinking H50 and this. I actually do watch NCIS: Hawaii, but not regularly.

Edit: The Magnum showrunner just posted this:

That sucks

I thought the Sun time slot would help and it isn't like the 3 letter networks have their best programs on Sundays anymore.

NBC has football on Sunday nights through January, and they have the final ten episodes banked to air in 2024. Probably a financial decision not to resign all their contracts in the summer of 2023 for product that wouldn't be needed until 2025.

They could air it on Mon or Tues after the Voice

I read somewhere* that the Sunday timeslot was supposed to help the show draw viewers because there was less competition.

* a like six inches up

Sad to see it go... After duplicating a few episodes from the Tom Selleck run, it finally found its own voice and I was fine with the result. Aloha 'oe!

Moved up from midseason 2024. The "final season" will premiere in October

I just hope it has a series conclusion to say goodbye.

Not sure if it's in the new show or not, but thought I would share this :
My friend's dad was the unit production manager for Magnum PI in the 1980's. His dad gave him some old stuff this weekend, including this.

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...1d61f9c7cd.jpg

Apparently, the cast kept stealing them, so the prop department had replacements made, and my dad had an extra one made for him to keep...
And apparently the ring has its own Wiki page

Are the final 10 episodes a straight-through run?

They may take a week off for Thanksgiving. But, for the most part it should. But, everything is up in the air with the strikes.

I hope they don't try to spread this out over 20-30 weeks, that would get really annoying. It would kill ratings too, though I suppose they don't care at this point.

Comcast has season 5 on demand so I watched the first episode. Seems like a fun, breezy show with attractive leads. I wouldn’t mind watching here and there but probably won’t go back to the beginning,

Well.. so long Magnum. I don't think that's a satisfying series ending, but it is what it is. I did like these characters and as I said before, they found a way to make their own show entertaining.

The state of Hawaii only has NCIS Hawaii now, right?
