Missed it since I thought it was on at 10PM and not 9PM. Really surprised that they are not rearing it anytime soon.

Shot of Robin's Nest Estate from the show, looks like they are going with all CGI or at least some basic composite build up for the estate. Boooooo! I can understand why of course, I doubt it's easy to find a $$$$$$$$ water front home in the modern day willing to let you set up a hollywood filming location for an entire tv season. Odds are the bulk of the show is shot more inland.

Re: Magnum P.I. (CBS) -- Reboot of 1980s show -- Premieres 9/24/18
The episode was ok. Jay Hernandez doesn't have the charm that Selleck had. I think the guy that plays Rick is the best of the supporting characters. They didn't really give the new TC much. Not too jazzed about Sung Kang as Tanaka.
I was hoping the show would find its own voice, but it seems like they're bringing in some of the old series plot lines. I hope they don't go full bore with the Michelle arc (which I assume Nuzo's wife was talking about when she mentioned to Higgins that Magnum was almost married.) At least they take the Ivan arc out of it with them killing off Nuzo (though they steal the episode title from it "Did You See The Sunrise?"). Not sure how many episodes Remar will have as Capt. Greene, but I never got the sense that they have a deep hatred for each other. As I thought, Higgins ability to tap her own resources probably takes the place of Mac/Maggie. Although there is a nod to the Mac/Magnum relationship when he brings malasadas to Cuhna for info. And that ending.. the truck load of gold and the two ex-marines get blown up and and goes over the side of a cliff and that's how Magnum wraps that up? Just remember that the original story for Magnum was a two parter dealing with LaBull and drugs (instead of gold), so they crammed all that into a single episode. |

I can smell the threeway crossover with MacGyver and Blood Bloods already.
The medical examiner from 5-0 was in the pilot, and MacGyver already had Chin and Kono cameos. So, looks like all three exist in the same timelines. I can't remember, but I think the Magnum helicopter was on 5-0 in the background once too. edit: yup, here it is: https://www.cbs.com/recommended-gall...hawaii-five-0/ I'll continue watching for now. |
Re: Magnum P.I. (CBS) -- Reboot of 1980s show -- Premieres 9/24/18
It was posted that this re-used the old Magnum pilot script.
Watching this episode, it struck me that they were really changing the Magnum and Higgins relationship. My recollection of the Selleck version is that while Higgins was always on the side of justice, he maintained a distance from Magnum's adventures, and was pretty critical of Magnum in general. (His warming up to Magnum happened over the course of years.) Hot Higgins in this new version started out the ep seemingly hating Magnum, but by the end of the hour she had taken a bullet helping him --AND HE WRECKED TWO OF ROBIN'S FERRARIs!!! I appreciate them changing things up by doing a gender flip on Higgins, but they couldn't even get through the first hour without dangling some romantic bait between her and Magnum. LAZZZZZEEEEE |

So meh. We've already dropped it. Just did not grab us at all.

I like Jay Hernandez but he just doesn't have the charm or presence to be a lead in an action series, never mind an iconic TV character as Thomas Magnum, at least in the pilot. Zachary Knighton was great as was Perdita Weeks and the show looked great.
I will give it another few episodes to see if Jay can settle into the role, sometimes it takes awhile for actors to really sink their teeth into a character and make it their own. |

(In contrast for quite a few other recent tv shows on bluray, I found the blurays didn't look that much better than their original hd broadcast versions). If Universal ever releases this Magnum PI reboot on bluray, I might pick it up season 1 as a first-week buy, just to see whether it looks more spectacular on bluray than the original tv broadcasts. |
Re: Magnum P.I. (CBS) -- Reboot of 1980s show -- Premieres 9/24/18
What a waste of Carl Weathers. As a tuna fisherman.
Also another H50 crossover character with Kamekona and Steve and Danny’s restaurant. Case of the week was kinda meh. It was a very 1980s like plot. Probably the best part of the episode was Higgins. She looked good in the dress and kicked some ass. at the little ode to the original series (Magnum’s stache) The Hawaii sunset at the end with Magnum driving off did look nice on my TV. |

I like the throw away line about Magnum's savings getting wiped out after "getting Robin Master's Ferrari fixed...". As if having Ferrari Spider shot a bunch of times and ran over with an ambulance is just a quick trip to Maaco autobody. http://thumbs2.imagebam.com/89/1c/de...d990367124.jpg just reminded me of "My old man is a tv repair man, he's got this ultimate set of tools, I can fix it!" |

Re: Magnum P.I. (CBS) -- Reboot of 1980s show -- Premieres 9/24/18
second episode, kinda watchable but nothing special
Will give it another 2 eps Cast chemistry is ordinary. Don't like female higgins saved somewhat by production values |
Re: Magnum P.I. (CBS) -- Reboot of 1980s show -- Premieres 9/24/18
lol not many watching
I quite liked ep 3 the problem i see with this show is delivering exciting storylines with the limitations of Magnum as just a PI in a world where Five O exists He can only do 'mickey mouse' type cases. Take this weeks. The villian was some two bit hood and he needed assistance from HPD to take him down. He aint gonna be able to take on any heavy hitters on his own That pushes the show into intellectual puzzle type cases, which just doesn't suit the character |
Re: Magnum P.I. (CBS) -- Reboot of 1980s show -- Premieres 9/24/18
"Higgins, PI" would be a more interesting show.

I haven't watched this weeks episode yet but I started watching the original series from the beginning as I hadn't seen a lot of the first 2 seasons. Man, I never knew about the original theme song and how awful it was especially in the pilot with the awful ring design silhouettes. Thank god for Mike Post. It went from being one of the worst themes I have ever heard to one of the best which is now iconic.
Also man could these shows have used a little editing. I know most of us are ADHD with out viewing nowadays but some of the shots just linger, and linger, and linger and the scenes are so drawn out with unnecessary dialogue and nonsense. At least in the first few episodes, the show is only good due to the cast and chemistry of the actors. It is kinda nice seeing the real estate knowing it has since been torn down and doesn't exist anymore. |
Re: Magnum P.I. (CBS) -- Reboot of 1980s show -- Premieres 9/24/18
Higgins wasn't necessarily lying when she said she was a doctor. In the original, Higgins had a PhD in mathematics.
I'm glad they introduced that new character who handles the cultural and historical aspects of the estate. In the original series, Higgins took care of that part. But the new Higgins is too young, so they needed that second character. |

Magnum is reunited with a former high school friend and they try to recover a kidnapped dolphin Higgins' friend brings his carnival to Hawaii and Magnum is asked to find the murderer of one of the trapeze performers A woman who is writing a book about road signs hires Magnum young college student hires Magnum to find her father military buddy of Magnum's has been kidnapped find a former British MI6 strategist who dropped out of sight Magnum is hired by Jeannie Lowry as a bodyguard while she plays high-stakes poker on a yacht I think this show will do ok just based off the cast for now. They really seem to be clicking well and the show is already adding in a lot of other interesting characters. I'm guessing it's not all that hard to lure an actor over for a paid trip to Hawaii. The only issue I see is the show sort of lost the Higgins effect as she is already way too helpful and to much is known about her background. |
Re: Magnum P.I. (CBS) -- Reboot of 1980s show -- Premieres 9/24/18
I just watched Monday's episode.
Didn't realize Tim Kang from The Mentalist was coming on as the new detective. I guess Sung Kang probably doesn't want to work full-time on this show. Anyways, I liked his serious man thing that he did on The Mentalist here. Plot with the mystery who did plastic surgery to cover her past was like an 1980's procedural plot and that's fine. For those who don't know, that actress....Catherine Haena Kim played Kono's Mom (with makeup) on Hawaii Five-O. She was also on this week's 911. I kind of like the sarcastic banter that goes on between Higgins and Magnum. |

Look i like the visuals of this show
It's not terrible, quite watchable, but i stand by my comment that it is Hawaii Five O 'lite' |
