I'm leaning towards this not getting renewed.
Hawley seems very involved in all his projects and not one to pass off duties to others. He's about to direct his first feature film and then his focus sounds like it will go to Fargo Season 4. He's also signed on to Doctor Doom (but who knows if anything will come of that).
My original thought was the extra episode was just restructuring additional footage instead of having extra long episodes. But I'm wondering now if it was added on to wrap things up.
Not to mention, the ratings are practically half what they were in Season 1.

I still just love this show but have to admit at this point this season has no clear story at all. No way normal audience an relate to any of this at this point. I hope it goes on for more seasons but I seriously don't see how at this point.
Still my 2nd fav show on tv.

I loved the first season but the second season has been just terrible IMO except for the multiple pathlines episode. There is only the barest outline of a plot, and it is often weird just for the sake of being weird. The first season had a strong plot, interesting back story, and a substantial arc all wrapped in an original, quirky shell, this season has been all weirdness with no structure or story really whatsoever. In the entire season there is probably still less than a single episode of actual plot.

There's not enough weirdness on TV. I'm OK with this making up for all the other shows almost single-handedly (along with The Magicians).

I would think Hawley would be interested in closing it out on his own terms. That is assuming this season isn't already set up to do that as it relates to the Shadow King.
Not sure what show the people claiming there is no story are watching. It's running along very slowly, and taking unique directions to do it, which is exactly why I enjoy this show far more than most shows that end up being at least somewhat predictable no matter what twists they throw into the mix.

Yea. FX runs things a little different. I think they are the best basic cable network. But clout doesn't always help with their collaborators... Sutter & The Bastard Executioner (though I think his ego and hubris did him in), Leery & Sex&Drugs&RocknRoll, Terriers and Shawn Ryan (EP).
If this does happen to get renewed, I would imagine it would be for a final season.

Eh, if I'm not mistaken, none of those shows you mentioned were well received with critics or audiences, probably a good reason they were quickly cancelled. Hawley is 2 for 2 with Fargo and Legion.

Terriers was huge with the critics, the other 2 not so much.

using terriers as an example in this way new world of tv models and DVR/ondemand is kind of strange.

The example is more about Shawn Ryan and an example of a major creative at the network not having as much clout as one would think. Nothing more.
