Three episodes left. Protagonists unknowingly heading into inevitable potentially deadly anbush with law enforcement including their closest friend. Will this be another "Ozymandias"?

That was one of the most intense episodes of The American's I've seen. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. After what I thought was an extremely slow season 5 they have ramped this show up to an entirely new level.

I'm assuming the case files Stan brought in to his FBI buddy/former partner tie back to Phillip and Elizabeth somehow? Something we saw in an early season perhaps?

Yeah. Figure he will tie it to something else with the same suspect profiles and that Elizabeth and Phillip were out of town at the time.

Phew, that scene with Stan breaking into and walking around their house...I feel like the whole series has in some ways been leading up to that.
He just starting to get suspicious, asking Henry all those questions, then the Chicago shootout--like a blurry picture far away, starting to slowly come into focus. Masterfully done.

An episode recap I saw seems to think that it is referencing the events from S1E3.

Not sure. He seems to think it's a reference to Robert's disappearance and the death of his secret wife Joyce, but doesn't really say why he believes that, other than Robert was a Russian national who "disappeared".

Yeah, great episode. One of the best of the past few seasons. Stan is a great character - so measured and calculated. This show is terribly deliberate in its pacing, but it pays off in dividends.
These final 3 episodes are shaping up to be awesome.

Maybe. I do know I want to rewatch the whole series in a binge. Like that they are going down the Stan figures it our route, though I have to think he would have been suspicious before now. Not necessarily in a Russian spy way, but in a "travel agency is a front for drugs or trafficking" kind of way.
