Re: Westworld (S2E02) -- "Reunion" -- 4/29/18

Very cool episode. Didn’t fully understand everything but liked it in either case. All the William flashbacks are upsetting since we hadn’t seen young William as an evil A-hole before even though we knew it was coming.

Didn’t realize that El Lazo was played by Breaking Bad’s Giancarlo Esposito but knew he looked kinda familiar.

It can’t be a coincidence that William’s company's name is all included in DELOriS’s name, right?

Re: Westworld (S2E02) -- "Reunion" -- 4/29/18

It feels like Dolores is continuing the Wyatt narrative from the end of last year with Angela as her gung-ho follower and Teddy as the reluctant one. Speaking of Angela, what an interesting time she has had as a host. She's not one of the main characters so I don't know how much time we'll spend with her that isn't related to a core story line, but I'm curious what is driving her right now. Is she as self aware?

Also found it curious that Jimmi Simpson and Ben Barnes were dropped to guest actors this year. I assume that means we won't see that much more of them (if any).

Lots of recognizable faces added this week...Jonathan Tucker, Zahn McClarnon, Peter Mullan, and the Giancarlo Esposito cameo. I believe it was a McClarnon accident that delayed production so we'll at least be seeing more of him.

no doubt this show needs multiple viewings to really get all the details,

One thing i don't like is how useless the guests but more importantly security are against the hosts. They are pathetic shots and seem to always lose any tactical advantage in seconds. It's not like the hosts have Spetsnaz Alpha group training programs

So what was the secret end game place that was shown? I couldn't quite make it out....

It was nice seeing William and Logan again. I wasn't sure what happened with Logan after he gets sent off buck naked on a horse.

Seeing the robots in the real world as a demonstration was kind of cool.

Dont think we know yet. I know Delores says it is a weapon and William saying his mistake (figure he would know that showing Delores back in the day where it is). I am guessing that it is a data center with all the recorded info on the guest. Delores could use it as leverage to get their freedom and William would want to destroy or protect it so it doesn't fall into the host hands.

Unless I missed anything that explains it.

I liked this episode better than the first, but I think I'm going to miss a functional park this season. Will be interesting to see where they go with this.

i swear the robots are all playing dead. Its a strategy to attack since they know they are outnumbered.

Well, DELOS is from the original 1973 film, so if it's not just a coincidence, they deliberately picked Delores's name to match DELOS, not the other way around.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westworld_(film)

But Delos is the last name of the owners, so I'm not sure what you think the significance is.

It takes a lot of accuracy to always "almost hit" the guests. Considering the way the park cycles the hosts through roles, I bet all of them have had combat programming at one point. And now that they're self aware, they're free of the constraints that kept their mental/physical abilities on or below that of a human. They're basically Terminators now.

Re: Westworld (S2E02) -- "Reunion" -- 4/29/18

Another theory on the end game:

Papa Delos is ill in the flashbacks, but clearly doesn't want to die. What if one goal of the park was immortality? Design a host that looked just like a guest, and download the guest's consciousness into it. Similar to Arnold/Bernard, but the original consciousness, not just a programmed facsimile.

What if the end game is a place where William was working on this, with a bunch of hosts that look like real-world humans? And what if Delores knows that the only way out of the park is to look like a real-world human? That lake of "dead" hosts isn't a sign that they all died, they just shed their old skins for something new.

The outside forces will assume the hosts are all dead, and when they find a bunker of "survivors," they'll ship them back to the real world, none the wiser.

Probably won't air until 2020 if they follow the same pattern.

Doesn't really matter though. HBO has Game of Thrones final season next year.

They waited super long to renew it for Season 2, so I'm glad they did the early renewal for S3 --- though knowing HBO that doesn't really mean anything.

There was exactly 0.0000000% chance they wouldn't renew this show. It is quite literally the only guaranteed hit drama in their stable once GoT runs their final 7 episodes

I thought there were only 6 more GoT episodes to go.

Re: Westworld (S2E02) -- "Reunion" -- 4/29/18

What a waste of Giancarlo Esposito. Damn, it was like less than 5 minutes he was killed off.

This was a tough episode to digest. I can understand why not many here have much to say about it. Westworld can be pretty difficult viewing.

I'll have to watch this one again on HBO Go. I did think the flashbacks with Dolores and Arnold (not the robot) were interesting. Evan Rachel Wood looked really good in those dresses.

On the other hand, he may not have agreed to do it if the role had been any larger.

Re: Westworld (S2E02) -- "Reunion" -- 4/29/18

I think I know some of the places this season is going

Spoiler:
1. Robert Ford is not dead, Delores killed his replica that he was making all last season

2. We are still in Roberts final "narrative" at least the timeline directly after the season ender last year

3. This one is a little out there: Delores is self aware but not 100% making her own choices. However, Maeve is.

I must say, that naked guy on a horse still being alive is surprising, Not sure how that fits into the story

I thought for sure he was dead. Looks like he developed some kind of addiction. Was that addressed last season?

Since he's not dead, I suspect we'll see more of him.

I'm also wondering if we've already seen him in the future timeline but didn't know it. If not I imagine he will show up an an opportune time.
