Well, that was a return to the predominantly rotten form of this season (with the exception of 'Forehead Sweat'). And this was written/directed by James Wong. Jeez.
The ham bone overacting meter was pinned during Scully's weepy confessional to 'dead' William.
Argh, this was dreadful.
On the meager plus side: Duchovny's Mulder was in better form than some of this season's eps.
Still - I'm in for the long haul (or short haul, considering the season is half done).

The guy playing Jackson/William is the son of Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon. At 25, he's nearly a decade older than the character he's portraying. It also looked like he was wearing a bad wig, but apparently that's his real hair.
He came across like a weak meteor freak villain from "Smallville". It seemed like he really had to concentrate to create visions, so I'm not sure how the "prank" at the beginning almost escalated to a double homicide... unless he wanted it to. Is that how Scully's two-timing son gets his jollies? She must be so proud...

Very good episode. In fact, best of the season so far and actually came close to feeling like a real X-Files episode. While I enjoyed last week, with so few episodes being done, Gillian not returning, and the first two episodes being so terrible, I really want to see the mythology story advanced as far as possible. If only Chris Carter would stop writing.

They missed a golden opportunity to do a crossover with Supernatural. That same ferry was on two recents episodes.
I’m trying to remember the last great mythology episode. The last two seasons they are all lacking.

I just can't watch this show anymore without wondering what the hell happened to Gillian Anderson's voice?
Does anyone know the backstory there? Is there one?
I've googled it but can't find anything. I haven't watched The Fall or the other shows she has been on recently. Is this a new thing?
I know women's voices deepen as they get older but this sounds more like real vocal cord damage.
In this episode you could tell she was trying to hide it by speaking all of her lines in a near whisper.

I too was taken out of the bad acting but the younger people in this episode, but overall I thought it was a cool way to add more to the William storyline. I'm actually looking forward to the finale now.

Pretty bold move to make Scully's son a straight up creep. Even without alien DNA it'd take a monster to pull something like that with those girls. WTF was anyone with a hand in writing this thinking?

Guess he didn't plan on both of his girlfriends improbably turning into Ash Williams and saving the world from the demogorgon. What are the odds?

Having two girlfriends and terrorizing them is still dick thing to do, especially since he created a whole internet hoax to do it. We're supposed to just gloss over that? Or worse, blame the girls he was victimizing? They made this kid a fucking psychopath.

I can understand your criticisms. Maybe I wasn't in-touch with The X-Files enough when it originally aired. But I'm happy with these episodes. It doesn't feel like fan fiction to me.

But yeah, I agree. Creating a website and doing all this groundwork is really obsessive... letting it get to the point where you are terrorizing your girlfriends on an abandoned ferry (nevermind the outcome) is only funny to a sociopath.
Although, now that I think about it, a lot of younger teenagers are sociopathic at times...
