For those who might not get the reference: Candice Bergen's father was Edgar Begen, a ventriloquist, whose "little friends" were Charlie McCarthy and Mortimer Snerd.

Re: Murphy Brown Revival Ordered at CBS; Candice Bergen returning

It's one thing reviving a show where kids on the original show are now adults like Fuller house and girl meets world

It's another thing reviving a show when in it's prime the actress was way past her prime and now she's almost a corpse

and its not like shes black and ages well like Tyra Banks or Christina Milian.

This Candice Bergen happy to watch

This one, yuck yuck yuck !

I'm so glad Christina Milan has aged well, unlike all those other 36-year-old hags out there.

Yea, people only want to watch shows with young people - not old hags like with Golden Girls. Oh, wait...

They'll need to bring back the Frank character as well - since he was Murphy's best friend and they worked well together. Corkie would help as well. Jim isn't really needed for the show, and Miles left the show before it ended - so he really doesn't matter (what's he done since?). I guess Lily Tomlin isn't needed either.

I remember him as the dad on the Fox sitcom Oliver Beene.

Nope, that's not me.

I was a kid during the first run of Murphy Brown, so I can't say I remember much about it. I Don't see how the show could work with older Candice Bergan. Maybe like other shows that have gotten revived make it about her kid today. Just my thought.

Barbara Walters - 88

Lesley Stahl - 76

Diane Sawyer - 72

Charlie Rose - 76

Mike Wallace retired at 87.

At 71, Murphy Brown is still a spring chicken in terms of news personalities.

Wow. So many nasty comments about this revival. And those saying "Didn't watch the original, won't watch this". Then don't! I'm sure most of the people who watched the show before will tune into this. And if it's halfway decent, will continue to watch. People love nostalgia, and a comeback. And to the guy who posted a picture of Candice Bergen today calling her a corpse and saying "yuck, yuck, yuck". I feel sorry for you.

She may “only” be 72 but she is a really old male co anchor on the original run was already really old then.

Is he still alive?

I get that it's natural to want the full cast back even if everyone was alive, but in real life it would be highly unlikely that all these people stayed at the same network together all these years.

Did you sleep through the last election and all of 2017?

I am very suprised the show was on that long. I was thinking it was a mid 80's show that was gone by 91 or 92.

That's exactly what timeframe I was thinking. I mean it was still on in the middle of Seinfeld and Friends' runs. Crazy.

It’s run was almost entirely concurrent with Seinfeld. Both shows ended the same year.

That's crazy. I always thought of Seinfeld as a 90's show and Murphy Brown as an 80's show.

I think that's because Murphy Brown is a very dated show. It was filled with news and pop culture references of its era (Dan Quayle and Connie Chung jokes sure resonate in 2018). I used to watch it as a kid for some unknown reason and probably only understood half of the jokes. I never understood why Murphy's painter was always painting stuff. Her house must have smelled of fumes all the time.

Seinfeld's humour (and Friends too, for that matter) is timeless and avoids such pitfalls. Very occasionally, Seinfeld would reference other 90s pop-cultural touchstones like Schindler's List, The English Patient or Melrose Place, but it would do so in a much more deft manner.

Joe Regalbuto was the first celebrity I met after I started my limousine service. He made an appearance here at the Eastman House (George Eastman, founder of Kodak mansion) along with a few other CBS soap stars.

We watched this show the whole run and would certainly be interested in what they have to offer. If all they want to do is bash I get enough of that in my Facebook feed and DVDTalk politics forum so I would quickly check out.

Eldin always painting was a running joke from the beginning. He was always promising to be done then never getting anywhere close. Then eventually she liked having him around and he even helped with the baby.

Re: Murphy Brown Revival Ordered at CBS; Candice Bergen returning

The show had so many running gags (the eternal painting of her house, the rotating secretaries, "Close the door" in the bar), and almost none of them were the least bit funny.
Hopefully they do away with those this time.

Maybe you forgot that Elaine wrote a Murphy Brown script and Kramer had a bit role as Murphy's secretary.

Eldin actually did finish after many seasons, but Murphy still wanted him around and he just started over.
