Kind of forgot this was coming up so fast until this week when I saw the thread bumped. Disney+ is churning out a good amount of original content this year to make the service more worthwhile.

Compared with the first year where their main new show was The Mandalorian.

I enjoyed it for what it was.
The podcasting kid is annoying.

I just finished the first episode. I liked it and I thought the podcast kid was funny. I hope they can round up a couple more team members. They’ll need them since it’s now a full contact league.

Show is okay based on the first episode. Very much what I expected from a Disney show. Not a bad thing necessarily, but it’s very by the numbers, and it seems like it’s going to follow some predictable beats.
I’m mainly being sold on nostalgia, and for the fact that it features Emilio Estevez. I will say the kids are okay so far mostly. Lauren Graham is alright too. I’ll stick with the show.

I agree with Mike86, not really much to add to what he said other than I had to remind myself that the next episode was not ready to stream so I am clearly planning to stick with the show.

3rd Episode is probably my favorite one so far.The cast and characters are really stating to find their groove. Maxwell Simkins as Nick is probably my favorite. The dialogue is pretty fun, especially when Gordon Bombay is speaking. Sofi, who looks to be the female equivalent of Adam Banks from the movies, seems like a cool character. But, fuck Coco Chad.

I really liked the 3rd episode a lot, specially, when Bombay finally talked about why he left hockey. I had/have a similar relationship with basketball and it reminded my how much I love the sport but how many times I've had my heart broken in it.

Just finished it. Fun show and great for the kids.
Good on them for managing to get a production done during the pandemic.

I didn’t mind the first episode, but I didn’t really feel much desire to watch the show beyond it. Maybe I’ll binge it. I kind of feel like they should have just made a new movie instead of a series.

I agree with what Iwhy said, I watched the final episode yesterday and it would be great if it got picked up for another season. If it was one and done at least we got a happy ending, but some of these characters have grown on me and it would be neat if the show continues. If you were considering watching you can certainly binge the series in one weekend.

Looks like Estevez is out for Season 2 because he refuses to get vaccinated. He's back to doing nothing again

Shit! That sucks. We watched with our kids and they loved it.

I think the show will be fine, but refusing the Covid vaccine is such a dumb reason to choose not to go back to work on the show. Unless he had a legit reason to refuse the shot (and while the article does not go into detail, there is no indication that he gave Disney a good reason to let him be exempt from getting the shot), he should have just complied.
The article does mention creative differences, so maybe between that and denying the shot the showrunners just decided to let him go. If one does not care for the majority of the kids on the show, you should not be watching, as the focus of the show should be on the kids and not Estevez's character. Lauren Grahams character also seems to be more of the focus as she acts as a stand-in for Estevez's character through most of the first season. This is why I think the show can still have a good second season. Bring in some familiar faces to do cameos, or a small recurring role and folks will not care all that much that Estevez is not part of the casting sheet.
I like Estevez, so it sucks that it sounds like he is an anti-vaxxer. Such is life.

And with that I suppose I'm out. Didn't really like any of the kids and mostly was watching for the nostalgia of the old gang anyways.

That sucks. I hope they can work something out with Josh Jackson.

Estevez released a statement about the situation.
He says it's a contract dispute and creative differences and not that he's "Anti-Vaxx" and he also says he was ill with COVID through most of 2020.
