I can't wait as it's been 6 long years, but I have to say that the few promos they have shown, the humor feels real forced. I hope I'm wrong.

To me it looks like it hasn't missed a beat. I'm not seeing anything that feels more forced than in previous seasons. Stoked for tonight! Looks like the premiere is a bit longer than normal, my DVR guide shows 9-9:40.

:lol: The end when Susie shows up and punches Larry in the face. The foisting stuff was good too. Also liked Larry's equation for holding open the door and how he convinced Betty that she should be the groom and Numa the bride. Great to see Ted Danson and Richard Lewis and glad that Cheryl Hines still shows up even though her and Larry aren't a couple on the show.

I don't know, this episode seemed was way too long. I felt like I was watching one of those comedy "director's cuts" where they edit all the deleted scenes back in. I thought the golden rule in scene writing was "arrive late, leave early". Scenes that could have been funny and memorable wind up being diluted by running way too long.

What made early Curb so great was the precise storytelling, how all these separate puzzle pieces came together in the end like a beautifully orchestrated magic trick.

It's been years since I watched the last two or three seasons, so maybe it's been off the rails for awhile and I don't remember. I thought this episode was contrived and sloppy. I'm assuming HBO just gives David free reign to do whatever he wants (a 40 minute episode? No problem Larry), and I think he would produce higher quality work with more limitations and less control.

HBO does give Larry whatever he wants. I loved this episode, which was almost 40 minutes long. The next episode is over 30 minutes as well.

The only thing I didn't like is that Susie didn't get to call Jeff Garlin a FAT FUCK in this one. :( lol

I always like Larry's season arc's as the FATWA storyline should be great. I also thought Leon stole every scene as he is the best character on the show (probably because he is the newest of the bunch). The way he wormed his way into being Larry's assistant was brilliant. :lol:

But as I said earlier regarding the promo clips, I really felt every character seemed to be forcing the humor in this episode (which usually happens to all great comedies in the latter seasons). The great thing about CYE is everything is so subtle with Larry, and THEN it blows up into a full-fledged fight with someone (that is usually the payoff). But this one he was just arguing with everyone going from place to place and it seemed real fragmented.

Saying all of that, it's still better then most comedies on TV these days, as I'm sure there will be some great episodes (along with some so-so episodes), so it's still good to be back.

Yeah, a lot of times, the aggression is minimal, but in this episode there were a few encounters where Larry could have straight up got the other person arrested (not even counting the Fatwa). :lol:

The situations were top notch, but it felt too ad-libbed. Nobody was coming up with funny lines off the top of their heads.

I felt the opposite - to me it seemed this was more scripted. Also it's very glossy and produced looking now. Appear to be more cameras in use too. I mean it was still great but I kind of miss the "lo-fi" look of the show.

As far as the show's look I think it's been that way for a while. I believe the show started to shoot in HD beginning in season seven. The earlier seasons did have a more documentary style look which was cool but I've gotten used to how it is now.

I didn't really find the show to seem more scripted than usual personally. I mean certain elements always were in the past too. There's basically an outline they work off of but I'm sure certain elements were always scripted.

I've seen those HD seasons multiple times and this episode still looked "glossier" to me than those. Maybe they just have better camera or lighting now.

Good to have Larry and Leon back, but this episode was not very good. A few funny bits but mostly not, and way too long.

Loved this episode, I'd put it up with some of the best ones in the series. So great to have it back. Having Larry fatwaed is going to be great.

Kimmel could barely contain himself, seems like he enjoyed being on this ep a lot.

The assistant bit was good stuff, JB was great, supporting cast was great, was Richard Lewis very sick?
