Modern-day black women are usually portrayed as strong, confident and “flawless.” But Issa and Molly are definitely not “killing it.” These best friends must deal with their own real-life flaws as they attempt to navigate different worlds and cope with an endless series of uncomfortable everyday experiences.
Created by Issa Rae and Larry Wilmore, the comedy series Insecure explores the black female experience. Rae stars as Issa and Yvonne Orji stars as Molly. Over the course of the season, Issa attempts to figure out what she wants out of life and how to take control of it, while fumbling her way through this journey. Molly, a corporate attorney who appears to have everything together professionally, struggles inside as she looks for external ways to fix her life.
Meanwhile, Issa’s boyfriend, Lawrence (Jay Ellis), who has fallen victim to complacency, works to get his own act together. Frieda (Lisa Joyce), Issa’s overeager white co-worker, whose enthusiasm is both annoying and endearing, is at the crux of Issa’s racial frustrations at work.
Issa Rae wrote the New York Times bestseller The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, which was published in 2015. Her web content has garnered more than 25 million views and over 200,000 subscribers on YouTube. In addition to making the Forbes 30 Under 30 list twice and winning the 2012 Shorty Award for Best Web Show for her hit series Awkward Black Girl, she has worked on web content for Pharrell Williams, Tracey Edmonds and numerous others.
Insecure was created by Issa Rae and Larry Wilmore; executive produced by Issa Rae, Prentice Penny, Melina Matsoukas, Michael Rotenberg, Dave Becky and Jonathan Berry.

Yeah this won't get much attention here. Anyway, I love this show! The music, the LA settings, the female dynamics, etc all GOOD.
I never made the Larry Wilmore connection.

Man, those dating scenes in the first half. Issa's attempts at flirting were David Brent level cringe.
I thought I liked Tasha until I realized she wanted to watch Shark Tank. I understand the guy breaking it off, but he was real shitty about it.
I loved the bit at the shelf picking up depot, where first it's like the show is saying, Oh, because they're both black they should be together? and then ends the scene with Molly staring at him and his white wife like, They're both black, they should be together!

The facial was surprising. I seem to recall seeing some jizz dripping from a whore's mouth on Game of Thrones once, but that has to be the most explicit sexual scene ever on TV.
I went back and re-watched it cause I wasn't sure what happened, but it looked clear to me the guy warned her he was about to come and his arms remain at his side, he doesn't hold her there, so she really didn't have any reason to get so pissed off, like, what did she think was going to happen?
I like Lawrence and Molly, but still always feel at a distance to Issa.

Nooo. Outside of Porn(faked joy)..and a serious Long term relationship where she REALLY Likes you(maaaaybe and not too often)...Black Women generally don't like having that happen. It was a big deal.

Yes, clearly it was a big deal to her. It just struck me as unfair that she thought he was an asshole for what happened, when he didn't do it on purpose, and she was the one holding his dick in her face even after he warned her he was about to come.
But now I'm confused, because I've watched the next episode, and when he calls her up he says, "I thought you were into it," suggesting he did do it on purpose even thought that wasn't the way the scene was originally shot.

Watched the first four episodes the other day and really enjoyed them. I'm disappointed to learn Lawrence won't be in the show, but I'll admit his absence makes Issa seem better.

I gotta love the psych-out the writers did with Lawrence. Welcome back and thanks for reminding everyone that unprotected sex has consequences! I did appreciate the fact that he called all the women he had sex with (and even one women he didn't have sex with) to tell them to get tested. This episode shows how much Issa has grown over the past season+

Returning for its ten-episode, fourth season Sunday, April 12, Insecure follows our favorite characters as they evaluate their relationships, both new and old, in an effort to figure out who and what comes with them in this next phase of their lives.
Season four follows the main characters in the aftermath of the decisions they made in the last season. Issa pursues a passion project she actually cares about, Molly navigates a real relationship for the first time, Lawrence figures out what leveling-up means for him, and we see the effect of Tiffany’s new baby on the dynamic of the friend group. Along the way, we'll see these characters evaluating relationships, both new and old, in an effort to figure out who and what comes with them in this next phase of their lives.
