re: 24 legal thriller reboot in development (Non-CTU story)

http://deadline.com/2017/11/24-serie...se-1202199024/

The new potential incarnation of 24 is a female-led legal thriller.

Here's the potential premise according to the article:

Quote:
Details about the premise are sketchy, but I hear that the potential new 24 series centers on a female prosecutor who uncovers a legal conspiracy and has to work against the clock to save a death row inmate facing imminent execution whom she had helped prosecute but may be innocent. I hear this is part of an anthological take on 24 that would tackle a new world with new characters each season.

Here's an idea....cast Annie Wersching as the lead.

Won't make up for Renee Walker, but still.

I know most 24 fans are going to hate this idea.

Hmm, the death row storyline sounds very appealing to me. It reminds me of that one Clint Eastwood movie.

Iím down

Bring back Yvonne Strahovski from 24: Live Another Day. She was great.

Let it die already.

Yes, I do hate this idea, although I could be persuaded if they took your suggestion...

re: 24 legal thriller reboot in development (Non-CTU story)

Nothing really new, but FOX's Entertainment President gave an update. But, it doesn't sound anywhere close to being finalized.

http://deadline.com/2018/03/24-serie...tv-1202335812/

Quote:
Fox is considering returning to a terrorism-threat backdrop for its potential new take on the 24 franchise. Chairman Gary Newman says there are a few paths being explored, noting, “I think terrorism is uniquely suited for 24 because the timeliness and urgency is built in. You could be in the medical field or the legal field where a clock is ticking and something has to happen. But I wouldn’t bet against terrorism” as a theme.

At the INTV conference in Jerusalem today, Newman and I touched on that project’s development, as well as renewal possibilities for some major series, the revival of American Idol — on ABC — and speculation about his future role.

Of a 24 franchise return, Newman offered, “Clearly, Kiefer (Sutherland) is not coming back… If he were available and wanted to, that would be pretty good. But we think that the franchise is still really valid.”

The project, which has received a script commitment, hails from executive producers Howard Gordon and Imagine’s Brian Grazer, as well as Jeremy Doner and 20th Century Fox TV and Imagine TV. As Deadline has previously reported, a new iteration could be built around a legal conspiracy as a female prosecutor must work against the clock to save a death row inmate.
Newman says that’s still a possibility, but there are other ideas in the works. Despite the ticking-clock inside the series, they don’t want the road to a reboot to have “any pressure to go faster than it needs to.”

I was looking forward to the non-terrorism storyline, only because their effort for Legacy was lazy and uninspired

And I'd be down for either of these fine ladies in the lead.

When Designated Survivor gets cancelled, they need one last Jack Bauer season and call it a day

Agreed. After the failed attempt with Heath, I don't think I really care about 24 without Jack. Hell, even Tony couldn't make the last one work.

re: 24 legal thriller reboot in development (Non-CTU story)

I think the reboots problem was just that Curtis Hawkins was a terrible choice to build a show around. It doesn't help that it felt like they were either doing it with no passion, or just going through the motions.

That female lawyer idea sounds totally awful FWIW.

One which ends with Jack dead or happily ever after, not captured

re: 24 legal thriller reboot in development (Non-CTU story)

Convinced my coworker today to watch season 1. He said he ran out of shows to watch (Netflix and Amazon)

First thing he says after I recommended 24 - isnít that just another CSI-type show?

Had to school him on the effect 24 had on the nation, particularly on the issues of torture and racial profiling.

re: 24 legal thriller reboot in development (Non-CTU story)

Even with the prequel in the works, this may still happen.

Quote:
Fox CEO and Chairman Gary Newman was asked at the Television Critics Assn. press tour in Beverly Hills on Thursday if the format — which originally launched in the wake of the 9/11 terror attacks– still has real-world relevance. Last year, Fox launched a 24 spin-off, 24: Legacy, starring Corey Hawkins, which was canceled after one season.

..................

As for the legal thriller, “the idea of moving the franchise from terrorism and security into the legal world is something we talked about as far back as season 3 or 4 of 24 where, from time to time, there would be discussions of spinoffs. You have to look for an arena where the stakes are high and time matters. [The legal version of 24] deals with an execution of a prisoner and there are just 24 hours left until the execution is supposed to take place. So the stakes are high and it potentially has a lot of the same values of the original 24. Regardless of the political climate, the time’s always right for a show of that type.”
