Yeah the heroes in all seasons have always been deeply flawed. Nikki and Ray were the obvious "heroes" for this season, I was surprised when they killed Ray off, but Nikki is golden.

Last season is was Peggy. The person that when we started the season, had killed a guy with her car and chose to cover it up.

So does anybody think we'll get a connection between the opening sequence in Ep1 and anything else in this show (because if there was one, I missed it)? I'd also like to know why the hell we had to endure the cartoon in EP3 or 4.

the episode 1 connection was pretty much just a running of the theme of the season. Think A Serious Man's opening scene.
