I wonder what is the point of these Netflix showrunners advertising ahead of time they have these long running series arcs already mapped out when Netflix is very likely to take a show off after 3 seasons anyway.
I hope that they at least have a 3 year stopping point that doesn't include cliff-hangers...just in case.
I'm not familiar with the video game source on this, but I never could get into Game of Thrones - probably tried to watch the first episode 4 or 5 times over the years and never could get through it. I'll likely give this a try but I hope it's trying to be its own thing rather than ride the wave of popularity of GoT. I get the feeling Netflix wants awards and accolades for this show so going for knock-off probably won't work.

I wonder if it has to do with if you are famliar with the source material or not? This review from someone who has played the games is much more positive.

I might try to watch the first episode tonight when I get home from work. If not, I'll check it out on Saturday or Sunday. I still haven't watched any of the new season of Mrs. Maisel yet.

God damn these fight scenes are well choreographed and brutal as hell. 1st episode was good. Finally good use for Cavill's accent!

First episode wasn't slow at all. Incredibly well-made all around.

I just finished this and I think it’s pretty awesome. It does start very slow and I’m sure there are certain people out there that won’t make it past the first half of the season. If you have a short attention span I’d say maybe don’t try to binge this. The storytelling here is non linear. There are storylines here that are years apart that happen in the same episodes that may be confusing at least in the beginning. I came into this cold not having read the books or played the games. After doing a bit of research this first season is sourced from the short stories that take place before the first novel.

Loved the first season. Only wish there were more. It did at times feel like it was rather slow, and looking back over it, not a whole lot actually happened, but I'm definitely still looking forward to more.
