You know this was actually a pretty decent episode. It had some good suspense, good moments for Kara, put the Danvers sisters back in focus, and had call backs to season 1. Only two things ruined it and the first is Maggie.
I almost turned the episode off right away after Maggies whining at the dinner table being a plot point and like the entire season Maggie's presence served no purpose. If Maggie was not a character this season, this episode could have been very easily done with just Kara and J'onn, or Kara and Winn, or hell Kara and Lena. Plus the episode again stretched credibility with her being so involved in it. Yes, her girlfriend went missing, but why the hell is Maggie going to the jail with the DEO and being a major part of this? It reminded me of when that bad guy attacked a building earlier in the season and Alex said" Call Maggie" and the only reason she showed up was so she could get shot, be taken to the DEO and get stitched up by Alex. She's just a poorly written terrible character who only exists to remind us Alex is a lesbian.
So it looks like Rhea is going to be the big bad this season. Kind of hard to give a shit about her since she was only introduced a couple episodes ago.
The bad guy being able to block J'onn's telepathy was pretty ridiculous. I give them credit for acknowledging it though even if it was in a lazy way.
Keep going Supergirl, your looking to take the tile from Legends season 1 as worst Berlantiverse season.

So, who doesn't know Kara is Supergirl (and by extension Clark is Superman)? You'd think before J'onn mind-wiped that guy he'd want to find out how he was blocking his telepathy?

Personally I enjoyed this episode. I thought the Maggie/Max scenes really worked given the scenes about "firsts" felt as genuine as the CW shows they handle all relationships like bad teen dramas. The "message" to Kara worked in a way as well. Only nitpick was the cliche Luthor striking a deal with Rhea simply because Kara didn't back to her in time.

My guess is that Melissa didn't want to keep getting dressed as Supergirl in scenes set at the DEO. Which is why they have discarded her secret identity there.
Star television actors have been known to complain about repeatedly putting on superhero costumes since it requires far more preparation time than normal clothes. Everything is done to minimize their schedule once the show is successful.
Which is why you see so many superheroes out of costume on television.

Several episodes behind now and deciding whether I want to invest any more time. I'm behind on Blindspot, The Americans and Black List plus I picked up John Adams on BR and started that. So Supergirl has really fallen way down the priority list. This season they seem so intent on making sure we know Alex is a lesbian and throwing shade at Trump than coming up with some good Sci-Fi episodic television. This show was so strong at first with Benoist being so charming she could pull off the adorkable Kara with ease.

I was thinking it was probably the same people who don't know where the Arrowcave is and they are in another universe.

Showing how stupid they are, they decide to mind wipe him(minus Alex punching him because you know) while he was able to do all of the following:
-Figure out Kara was Sueprgirl
-Figure out how to block J'onn's telepathy
-Figure out that J'onn could shapeshift
-Take a trained DEO agent.
-Know that J'onn was pretending to be his father.
-Know that a DEO agent had a tracker in them
-Reroute said tracker so they could go to the wrong location
And other miracle things that he did. They should have kept him locked up like Hannibal Lecter.
