Dear White People (Netflix) -- based on the film -- Series Thread

<iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/oYKgHvPVACE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Set against the backdrop of a predominantly white Ivy League university where racial tensions bubble just below the surface, Dear White People is an hilarious send-up of “post-racial” America that weaves together the universal story of finding one’s own identity and forging a wholly unique path. The satirical series -- which picks up where the acclaimed 2014 film by the same name left off – follows a group of Winchester University’s students of color as they navigate a diverse landscape of social injustice, cultural bias, political correctness (or lack thereof) and sometimes misguided activism in the millennial age. Through an absurdist lens, Dear White People utilizes biting irony, self-deprecation and sometimes brutal honesty to hold up a mirror to the issues plaguing society today, all the while leading with laughter.

Not surprised that there are zilch comments in this thread. With how heated the sub-forums have gotten -- here's a bit of an educational and hilarious show folks should watch. I watched the first episode today and was blown away. Gonna binge the rest in the next couple of days.

I didn't know there was a thread for the series. I binge watched it last weekend and really enjoyed it. The film was funnier but with the extra time, the series was able to dive into more character development. The series brought back a lot of memories from my college days.

I haven't gotten around to watching the series yet, but it sounds like an extended version of the movie focused on 1 character per episode.

The movie itself spends a good amount of time with 4 different characters and brings them together at the end.

You sure you weren't thinking of the Movie thread? Though I don't see it in there either.

Change is in the air. Dear White People returns to Netflix August 2 with new characters, new relationships, and new secrets.

Re: Dear White People (Netflix) -- based on the film -- Series Thread

So I finished this yesterday and I kinda wish we had two or three more episodes - the secret society angle was interesting but didn't take up as much space in the season narrative as I thought it would. The characters have matured, as they should and the jokes about a third season Netflix show were on the nose in a good way.

Re: Dear White People (Netflix) -- based on the film -- Series Thread

Totally forgot about season 3. I binged it when it first premiered and it as weird because the entire tone and structure totally different than the first two seasons with exception to the last episode of S3. I think it's coming back for a 4th and final season.

Season 4 (the final season) is live on Netflix. It will be a musical, so we'll see how it goes.
