The new season of The Amazing Race has been moved up to premiere on Thursday March 30th at 10PM Eastern 9PM Central. This will be a perfect strangers season. There will be teams of two perfect strangers competing on a race around the world. As of right now, the teams have not been released and I wonder if they will release the cast until after the premiere. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up on the premiere date change.

If they don't release the team pairings before the premiere, it's going to be hard to do our Amazing Race game. I will be watching this news closely.

Rumor has it that this edition might be the last season.

I think it was posted in an older thread, but CBS cancelled production for the 30th season in the Fall.

The Thursday at 10pm hour where it's premiering on the 30th has been a deathslot for CBS. This is a family show and I highly doubt it will get much "live" viewers that hour. Probably most families will DVR it and watch it on Friday or the weekend.

I would watch any season that isn't made up of the garbage casts they gave us the last couple seasons. Pushing the online celeb thing killed this show.

The only way I could think to do it without teams announced is to either randomly assign teams as they come up on the show. Ex. First team named goes to Damfino, second to JuryDuty, etc or have the draft after the first episode only draft the remaining teams left after the premiere.

I'll definitely DVR it instead of watching live.

My friend and I vowed skipping last season after watching the premiere and hating the idea of "internet celebrities". So we're glad it's back! (I liked the blind date / strangers season)

The first option eliminates the need to learn about the teams. The second will give us one episode to study them. Either could work. I might even figure out a way to do both.

Yeah, this certainly feels like it could be the final season. Dumping the fall season for MacGuyver, giving it a crap timeslot, the gimmicks.

Too bad, really. I enjoy TAR more than Survivor and Big Brother, and it's sort of fun to watch while I follow the teams on Google Earth.

This show seems like a prime candidate to find a new network, has won awards, has a loyal following, why wouldn't it be picked up somewhere else?

I hope it gets shopped if it does get cancelled.

When I saw the trailer, the first thing I thought was whether it was going to affect our ability to draft teams for the game.

But yeah, that's a horrendous time slot for a family-oriented show.

Yeah, that article implies the 22 people must choose their teams in Episode 1...so it seems to me for the DVDTalk game, if we do it, we either do so randomly (which wouldn't be so bad--you never know what's going to happen anyway)--or we wait until Episode 2. I'm good either way. My only thought is that one team could get voted out in Episode 1, leaving only 10 teams to pick if we wait.

And agreed, davidh777, what a horrible timeslot for a family show.

I forget how many TAR players we've been getting lately, but that may not be a bad thing if we're short.

I always used to watch live with one of my kids because the other kid was always doing homework and the wife was out. Kind of lame as bonding experiences go, but I liked it.

Why must we draft teams? If the show is giving us randomly-paired contestants, why not go ahead and pick individuals? That way, DVDTalkers will ALSO be randomly paired. Might make for some fun camaraderie.

Still, I'm sad that one of my two all-time favorite TV shows has been reduced to this. Maybe it's time for Phil to roll up the mat for good.

Man some of the women in the preview video are scary looking! They look like they should be on American Gladiators and not on The Amazing Race.

It seems like CBS is trying to kill the show by putting it in such a lame timeslot, but I work for a CBS affiliate and the 10PM Eastern /9PM Central timeslot is bad for a lot of networks and it really affects the ratings for the 11PM/10PM newscasts which are way down. So if The Amazing Race, could somehow help boosts those numbers, then it could be a good thing for the show.

That would make sense. We're pretty much randomly paired anyway, as I doubt anyone is drafting someone just because they want to be teamed with JuryDuty or whoever (though I've had some good runs with JuryDuty myself).

Watching the NCAA Basketball tournament games on CBS this afternoon. During the second half of the Bucknell-West Virginia game from Buffalo. NY - one 10-15 second commercial aired promoting that the brand-new season of the Amazing Race begins on Thursday, March 30. They mentioned the strangers twist and showed quick shots of some of the strangers already being paired up doing tasks. The ending of the commercials had one of the teams already arguing about directions.

Just giving a heads-up if you are watching the NCAA Basketball the next four days on CBS or even other CBS programing come next week that CBS is airing commercials spoiling what dome of the teams are for the upcoming Amazing Race. Some people may want to avoid the commercials and be surprised when the teams are paired up during the premiere episode. Of course CBS just gave an advantage for people who are playing our Amazing Race game here - you can tell what some of the teams are and then decide whether you will choose one of the members of the team or not based on their partner.

I saw a commercial and they said it was the first time strangers had been paired together, but that's not true? The Blind Date season wasn't that long ago.

It does seem like this is the final run, but at least TAR Canada is still going along with other International versions. There's also the chance of another network picking it up.

I've watched the US version since the beginning, but I feel like there hasn't been a great season in a while. Hope this one delivers, though I'm not a fan of the stranger twist.

I enjoyed all the seasons even the Family Edition (Go Black Family!). It's about the journey and the scenery and the adventure. Even the blind date edition was great because of how much Blair was suffering because of Haley and they still almost won. It's great television for me without having to resort to the "shocking blindside" and producer manipulations that Survivor does.
