Luke Roberts, Sarah Green, Brandon Jay McLaren and Nazneen Contractor Star in the New Drama Inspired by the Real-Life Professional Experiences of World-Renowned Crisis Negotiator Laurent Combalbert and His Partner, Marwan Mery

"The Return" - Top crisis and hostage negotiator Eric Beaumont uses his insight into human behavior to resolve the most difficult kidnap and ransom cases, and save lives, on the series premiere of RANSOM, Sunday, Jan. 1 (8:30-9:30 PM, ET/8:00-9:00 PM, PT) on the CBS Television Network. Luke Roberts, Sarah Green, Brandon Jay McLaren and Nazneen Contractor star in the new drama inspired by the real-life professional experiences of world-renowned crisis negotiator Laurent Combalbert and his partner, Marwan Mery.

Eric Beaumont's team is brought in to save lives when no one else can. He understands criminals better than they do and uses his insight into human behavior to resolve the most difficult kidnap and ransom cases. Despite the stakes, he refuses to resort to violence, even when confronted by some of the most dangerous criminals in the world. His team consists of psych-profiler Oliver Yates, ex-cop Zara Hallam and aspiring investigator Maxine Carlson. Maxine, the newest member, is eager to prove herself, but a dangerous secret from her past may pose a threat that even the great Eric Beaumont is unable to resolve.

A Saturday time slot? That doesn't bode good things.

Re: Ransom (CBS) -- From EP Frank Spotnitz -- Series Thread -- Premieres 1/1/17

I just watched the 1st episode today.

Considering this was from Frank Spotnitz, I thought this was a disappointment. It was very bland and mediocre. Nothing remarkable or memorable at all. If there was a checklist of procedural cliches, the 1st episode covered most of them.

The "twist" with the new hire was pretty dumb too. I'll check out the 2nd episode on Saturday or later via DVR, but I don't expect a vast improvement. There's hundreds of hours of great TV fighting for people's attention and I don't think Ransom made a good 1st impression.

Frank Spotnitz left Man in the High Castle for this piece of crap?! Pressed stop & delete after 10 minutes.

Network television pays much better than streaming, especially if the show becomes a hit and gets syndicated.

The first two episodes haven't been bad. They aren't great television but certainly watchable procedurals.

The second episode did hinge on an entirely incorrect understanding of how baseball's salary structure and contracts work. Kind of undercut what was otherwise a decent episode.

I plan to give it a couple of more episodes for them to get the formula down. This does look like classic CBS procedural fodder but the cast is strong enough that it might have potential.

Two episodes in, not bad for a mid-season replacement. We'll keep watching...

I watched off and on during the second season, but this really isn't must-see television. It's a disposable procedural with a few recurring, and mostly lame, elements.

Re: Ransom (CBS) -- From EP Frank Spotnitz -- Series Thread -- Premieres 1/1/17

I only watched a few episodes of the 1st season. Just had no time to keep up with some Canadian import procedural that gets really no buzz here in the States. They actually moved production to Hungary from that I read to save more money.

For every show like this that pops up, there's 10 others that I'd rather try to keep up with instead.
