Re: Shows which have never left syndication
The b/w episodes of Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie were never syndicated. Broadcast stations aired the color episodes over and over for 20+ years.
In the early 90s Nick-At-Nite got rights to the "not seen in 30 years" b/w ones. But that is all they had. WGN, TBS and other broadcast stations continued to show only the colors, while Nick showed only the b/w. All episodes have since joined in one package.

Re: Shows which have never left syndication
My guess is the five b/w seasons were syndicated when the show went color. Went the show finished it's run the remaining color episodes were syndicated in a separate package. The stations airing the b/w ones may or may not have picked up the second package.
Here in Kansas City a local channel still has rights to the b/w episodes. MeTV has to substitute a color episode locally whenever a b/w one is on the schedule.

Bonanza wasn't syndicated until the show had run it's course. 14 seasons. NBC or Paramount had to decide what to do with them all. They decided to syndicate the first six seasons plus a few from 7 with big guest stars to get a nice round number.
In the mid/late eighties, with cable in full swing, they cracked the vault and syndicated the remaining seasons to either FAM or Hallmark. So the syndication was split.

But it always felt off when a show that has such a long series run, only about 20 or 30 episodes get played/replayed. Kind of like RUSH being a classic rock band with over 17 albums, yet, the radio only plays Tom Sawyer, Spirit of the Radio and Limelight.

This was on WTBS, although I can't say whether it was pre-superstation or not. Seems like they also had B&W episodes of Bewitched too (Elizabeth Montgomery was my first crush), but that could just be my mind playing tricks on me. Then again, color shows & movies seemed to be the rule, rather than the exception, in the early days of WTCG\WTBS.

Frasier. Heck, at one time there were two channels airing it, one of them (Lifetime I think) was running like 6 episodes a day. Lifetime has dropped it but it still airs on Hallmark every night.

You're right. The second syndication was color episodes only(1984-91). In 1989 the b/w ones were syndicate to Nick-At-Nite. In 1991 all episodes were united when Columbia/Sony syndicated it.

They absolutely were, at least I Dream of Jeannie was. I remember watching it as a kid, and I'd skip it to go play if it was a B&W episode, but I'd watch the color episodes. It aired at the end of a block of shows I liked, like Gilligan's Island, The Beverly Hillbillies and Bewitched. I can't remember what came on after Jeannie, but it was something I didn't like - probably Marcus Welby, MD, or My Three Sons - so Jeannie was always the "cut-off" as it were.

Re: Shows which have never left syndication
I remember watching MASH at 6, 6:30, & 10 pm every week night. It was comfort tv for my mother who went blind in '86 but had seen all the episodes prior to that.

It seems to me that The Brady Bunch and The Golden Girls could be added to the list.

Yup. I didn't mind Golden Girls when it was just reaired on one cable channel. I remember for a long time Lifetime was the only channel that aired the reruns. Then later Hallmark got the syndication rights and then WE also started airing reruns too. Now it's on Hallmark and Logo. I liked that show as a kid and I enjoyed the Lifetime reruns, now I just wish it would leave syndication.
