Re: Unsolved Mysteries available for streaming (Stack & Farina episodes) with updates
So are they airing the original first episodes? I can't remember exactly, but in the first few episodes the reenactments often used the original people involved in the story instead of actors. Apparently you can tell how good (or bad) they were by how much dialogue they use vs. Stack's narration.

Re: Unsolved Mysteries available for streaming (Stack & Farina episodes) with updates
Finished 23 of the 24 episodes from season 1 with Stack. I should have the final episode done by tomorrow.
Man, this is been a pretty awesome. As I mentioned before, I hadn't seen many of these episodes since they originally aired circa 1988-89. Some really creepy cases and quite a few unsolved murders that will likely never get resolved.
One creepy case that stuck out was the young woman driving from Colorado to Wyoming to visit her boyfriend. She ended up dead in a river raped and murdered. They never found her killer.
Probably my least favorite episode thus far was the Alcatraz episode. It's probably because I've heard the stories so many times about the group that supposedly escaped. They dedicated a full episode it and also had a live demonstration to see if someone could realistically swim in the San Francisco Bay after escaping in the frigid conditions.
Hopefully Amazon Prime posts season 2 fairly soon.

Re: Unsolved Mysteries available for streaming (Stack & Farina episodes) with updates
Among the most chilling segments I remember from the original show are the Blind River maniac (still unsolved) and the case of the young woman (can't remember the name) in Missouri (?) who called her boyfriend from a payphone in the middle of town and described a creepy guy in a green pickup truck (fish decal on the back window) approaching her. Boyfriend races out of the house, sees the pickup truck going in the other direction, and jams his car in reverse, ruining his transmission. Last thing he claims to have seen is his girlfriend struggling with the driver as the pickup sped off. I believe the last update I heard was that the boyfriend had been arrested and possibly convicted of killing her.

Re: Unsolved Mysteries available for streaming (Stack & Farina episodes) with updates
For anyone interested, the 3rd season was just posted to Amazon Prime a few days ago.
Seems like they are posting these on a monthly basis. Although someone on the Unsolved Mysteries Facebook said they will soon be rolling these out 2 per month. Apparently there is like 12 seasons with Robert Stack.
I watched season 3 episode 1 the other day and that featured the story of a Satanic arsonist and they showed video of a house burning down with his creepy ass commentary. It gave me the creeps back when I 1st saw it and it still did today.

Oh yes, the arsonist from Redwood City. That was creepy, especially when a firefighter related that, based on the position of one of the filmings, the videographer/arsonist must have been standing just 20 feet behind him. They caught the perp but couldn't identify him by name because he was a minor. I wonder if he went on to more serious crimes, as many arsonists do.

I finished watching season 1 a few week back, but I had not checked to see if other seasons were added. I'll probably watch a few season 2 episodes this weekend.

Re: Unsolved Mysteries available for streaming (Stack & Farina episodes) with updates
Season 6 is now on Amazon Prime.
I'm just about done with season 5. Really enjoy re-living so many of these old cases.
The only issue I have with how these are posted on Amazon Prime are the redundant updates on some cases, but I understand that's how it is since the show isn't on the air anymore.
Example, if there is a case being shown on a certain episode, the update will appear right afterwards, which is fine.
However, the show will also feature specific segments in some episodes dedicated to updates and sometimes you may see the same update you saw previously.
One thing I have noticed in re-watching the show again is there are so many fricking UFO stories. Also, not really a big fan of the religious miracles stories. Those stories do get kind of repetitive and boring. I prefer the missing persons or unexplained death or even wanted stories.

I do recall seeing a few ghost stories between seasons 2-5. In fact, I just watched one in season 5.

Too bad U.M. included the ghost stories, miracles, and other such metaphysical drivel. It was such a brilliant show, but for that tacky content.

I guess those segments never bothered me but they weren't my favorite parts of the show either. Some were done better than others for sure or at least some hold up better than others.

Re: Unsolved Mysteries available for streaming (Stack & Farina episodes) with updates
Yes, most were pretty harmless, but the show would've been so much better without them. Mind you, I loved the segments about lost loved ones or people who were searching for the people who, e.g., saved them from drowning. Those mysteries were usually resolved, and the updates were usually throat-catchingly moving.
Remember the one about the teenage girl who ran from home and met three construction workers on a bus? They took her under their wing and talked her into returning home. Something like that. Those stories renewed one's faith in human beings, however briefly.

Re: Unsolved Mysteries available for streaming (Stack & Farina episodes) with updates
So I'm about 6 episodes into season 6.
This story that aired in that season I found really tragic.
https://unsolved.com/gallery/su-ya-kim/
Young Korean mother of 2 in New York never came home after leaving on a shopping trip. She ended up being brutally stabbed to death (9 times) and was found in a dumpster.
So sad. The case is still unsolved 26 years later. The husband was so distraught after her death that he eventually shut down their 2 clothing stores and moved back to Korea.
I did notice that Daniel Dae Kim from Hawaii Five-O was one of the actors in the recreation. This was apparently his 2nd acting job.

Thanks for the reminder. Forgot about this being on Amazon, watching the Stack episodes from the beginning.
With the revival craze going on, and talking about new re-enactments not what they did with the Farina version, who do folks think would be a good actor to host?

All the Dennis Farina seasons are there already.
The Producers have said they would love to revive the series. But so far nothing has materialized. He doesn't have the presence of Stack, but I personally like Terry O'Quinn as a potential host.

Re: Unsolved Mysteries available for streaming (Stack & Farina episodes) with updates
I loved this show as a kid, especially the UFO themed episodes.
Had no idea that they did a new Unsolved Mysteries in 2008. Seems pretty lame that it was essentially reruns with a new intro and host added.
I wouldn't think the brand is one that is worth reviving. The show itself was great, but it seems like it was all these perfect elements coming together that made it special. The intro alone was great. It'd be like trying to capture lightning in a bottle.

Season 7 is now up. There is an episode in that season that was completely UFO/alien themed.

Unsolved Mysteries started getting into more questionable topics later in its run. They started touching on conspiracy angles and other things than straight crime mysteries.

Now on Hulu.
However, only a limited number of episodes are available.
The only way to watch season by season is through Amazon.
I'm about 16 episodes into season 7. I would say that Supernatural, Mysterious Legends, Treasure stories seem to be quite prominent this season.

It seems all the Paranormal/Alien stuff seemed to increase drastically around the time X-Files started.
