THE FLASH

"Invasion!" - (8:00:00-9:00:50 p.m. ET) (TV-PG, V) (HDTV)

IT'S HEROES VS. ALIENS IN THIS EPIC CROSSOVER EVENT - When aliens called the Dominators attack Central City, Barry (Grant Gustin) speeds over to Star City to ask the Green Arrow (guest star Stephen Amell) for help in stopping them. Realizing the battle against the Dominators is bigger than they thought, they track down the Legends of Tomorrow, and Barry and Cisco (Carlos Valdes) create a breach to bring back a secret weapon - Supergirl (guest star Melissa Benoist). Once all of the super friends are assembled, they come up with a plan to attack but a shocking secret related to Flashpoint is revealed and suddenly no one is sure who they can trust. Meanwhile, Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) wants to join the battle against the aliens but Iris (Candice Patton) tells him he's not ready. Dermott Downs directed the episode with story by Greg Berlanti & Andrew Kreisberg and teleplay by Aaron Helbing & Todd Helbing (#308). Original airdate 11/29/2016.

Episode 8 of 23

If you missed last night's Supergirl or don't watch it regularly, you are fine starting with this episode for the crossover. Barry and Cisco only appeared in the last 2 minutes to tease the crossover.

According to Andrew Kreisberg, Melissa had a very limited appearance in last week's Supergirl episode so she could shoot 5 days of filming for the crossover.

The Mick and Kara interactions were fucking fantastic. This whole this is fantastic. Loving every second of this.

Edit: holy the the preview for Arrow!

If it wasn't for a sort of half hearted Supergirl start to this epic 4 episode series, it would have been better, but that was fun in itself.

The previews kind of gave this away, but if I had been Barry faced with an Alien invasion I would probably want to recruit as many smart people and powered people that I could trust. In addition to going to Earth 3 to get Supergirl I probably would have made a pit stop on Earth 2 to get Harry and Jesse.

Steel was kind of wasted cleaning the Waverider as well, but hey, he's no Speedy.

It was great seeing Flash figure out on his own how to trick a mind-controlled Supergirl into destroying the crystal. That moment alone was worth it.

I also enjoyed seeing the other heroes attempt to take on Supergirl in the training montage and fail miserably.

It might have been better pushing some of the heavier emotional conflicts after the Dominators are beaten.

In a bit of irony, neither Kara or Barry were alive when the Invasion crossover with the Dominators came about in the comic books. Both had been dead for several years. Now they lead the charge on Earth-CW.

You went full taffer, son ;)

All ribbing aside, I really started reading comics regularly in the early 1980s, when I was 11. 80s DC is really my wheelhouse. Seeing The Dominators, The Hall of Justice, Kara Zor-El with Barry Allen, and Green Arrow battling Vigilante really hit the sweet spot.

I'll always remember the Invasion! crossover for the dreadfully cheap paper stock DC Comics happened to be using at the time. Interiors looked dismal much of the time.

I haven't thought of the phrase "Baxter format" in decades. Man those books felt like CLASS to a geeky kid.

Then "Prestige format" rolled around...

Invasion was probably the best of the big 80s/early 90s DC crossover events.

Last weeks Legends seems more like the first part than yesterday's Supergirl episode.

Re: The Flash (S3E08) -- "Invasion" -- Crossover Part 2 -- 11/29/16

 That was a hell of a lot of fun. Great to see all the characters together. This was the true 1st part. The Barry/Cisco cameo at the end of last night's Supergirl wasn't even needed since it was set up better here.

I was surprised how big Flashpoint played a role in this episode, including the message from Barry 40 years in the future. If you don't watch Legends, then you obviously didn't see the set up with the recording from a few weeks ago.

 at Thea calling the Legends name egotistical. And yes, I  at Rory and Kara's interactions. At him calling her skirt.

I didn't realize that Iris didn't know that Oliver was the Green Arrow.

I'm betting The CW/WB spent a shit load of money on this crossover. The special effects and the aliens looked pretty impressive.

Looking forward to tomorrow night.

With cool shit like Supes and the Flash's duel zipping around the city it makes me haaaate Smallville even more with their "no tights/no flights" horseshit.

Well done CW. Thanks for throwing the cash at these projects and making them top notch. Never in my little kid mind did I ever think we'd get this stuff.

Did supergirl say she recognized their name from krypton or did she just see their video first? Because lilah said that's what they called them not necessarily what they were...if supergirl said we know the dominators just from lilahs naming then that doesn't make sens e

So is Stein's wife dead and he now has a daughter he didn't have?

That's what it's sounding like.

Also, yeah, Supergirl knowing anything in that multiverse just seemed odd.

When The Dominators were mentioned she said she heard them spoken of on Krypton.

I'm sure Team Flash aren't the first group to discover the existence of a multiverse. Kryptonians and Dominators were surely aware of it.

She said they had also attacked Krypton. They experimented on Kryptonians and killed millions.

Didn't the daughter say his wife just wasn't home? I don't' think she's dead in Flashpoint.

She kind of acted odd when he mentioned her when he first came to the door.

My point is that Lilah said they were calling them the Dominator's. Did Supergirl mention she had heard of them before seeing the video? If that's the case, did someone on her earth call them the Dominator's as well?

Good start to the crossover. They packed a lot into that hour (43 minutes). I really liked how existing story plots were woven into the story.

"Barry, is there something that I can do for you? Another evil speedster to help you with?"
