The Walking Dead (S7E03) -- "The Cell" -- 11/6/16

On the third episode, "The Cell" - written by Angela Kang and directed by Alrick Riley - we're introduced to a completely new group of survivors living in an impressive community that seems to have it all - for a price.

Episode 3 of 16

What happened to the character Jesus we met last season? I read an article on the one critique of TWD is they introduce these characters and then we forget about them when they re-appear later?

He was promoted to series regular this past summer.

However, the way the show is structured, you can be a series regular and not appear in every episode. Andrew Lincoln is the lead and a series regular, but I think he appears in like 11-12 of the 16 episodes even though he's credited in every episode.

He does. I've been saying that for awhile now. It's the mouth/beard that makes the resemblance.
Anyway, that was probably the most boring episode I've seen so far. They really need to stop dedicating full episodes to secondary plots.

I agree that they should stop dedicating full episodes to a single plot/story line, but this episode was MUCH better than last weeks. Not a lot of "action", but at least there was some real conflict and a few tense-ish moments.

After 3 episodes we still haven't seen the people who stayed back at Alexandria (ie. the priest, lesbo, Jesus, etc.)

Why is Xander Berkeley getting a credit the last two weeks, -have I been missing something?

The way this was put together reminded me of a Lost episode.

Another snoozefest. I'm not a fan of these episodes that focus solely on one or two of the main characters. I know each cast member can't appear in every episode, but I wish the writers would find a way to have more of the main cast in every episode. Also, I can't wait for Negan to die because I'm already tired of the way the actor plays the part (the nonstop grinning and swagger). It's also stupid he wears a leather jacket and scarf in the heat of summer.

The Jam

Christine Evanelista on Talking Dead look hot in her short black dress and knee-high boots.

I get how they want to give us a chance to visit each community just to have an understanding of each one and how they have survived and kept order so when we get to the mixed episodes we will have an understanding of who we are dealing with. As a comic reader these have been a bit slow but still enjoyed seeing the places from the comics. My wife who does not read them has enjoyed getting to know the different communities so these last few have been some of her favorites since she has been hoping that they find other communities (I try not to spoil things for her).

The thing that disturbs me the most is that a song like Easy Street is a real song that someone wrote and others are listening to for purposes other than torture.

I'm guessing AMC wants each ep to stand alone so it's more re-run and syndication friendly.

as for this ep, ehhhhh.. It was not really bad but it was also straight cookie cutter 101 for anytime a show throws one of the good guy into a cell. It was so by the numbers the only thing I found surprising was Merle did not make an appearance. Either to tell his brother to hang in there or just to show Daryl was slowly breaking down.

randomness: Pfffffffffftt... no way I get broken by loud music. I've lived most of my life right next to an elementary school! Well over a decade of screaming, yelling children playing right near my back yard fence 6 days a week (soccer etc on the weekends). Hell I'm typing this at 8:20am and I can HEAR a few of them right now!

No much like the man who takes small doses of poison becomes immune, noise can't break me... not anymore

Was I the only one that wanted Daryl to say "A boy is no one?"

Meh, a boring plotline is a boring plotline. Not saying that's the case yet this season, but if they cut between characters, a dull plotline can seem to drag on forever.

As bad as the Many Faced God story was on Game of Thrones, I'd have rather slogged through it in one week rather than have something exciting come to a screeching halt every week so they could slowly bore us to death.

I think this band is a one-off side project. It's the only song available for "Collapsable Hearts Club". Even though it doesn't explicitly say so, I get the impression it was written for the show.

Looking at the website, it looks like this Jim Blanco is in a bunch of hipster bands. Kind of like the Forniquette stuff.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. A third season Lost episode at that, with the out-of-place music, Daryl being held prisoner, and the cult-like aspects of Negan's group. Seems like "The Others" from Lost were a big influence here.

I assume Tony Danza bit the dust when California got bombed in FTWD.

Set "Easy Street" as my ringtone.
