Re: The X-Files (FOX) -- Season 11 News and Rumors
Ten episodes is plenty for a "season" of TV. Especially when weighed against the idea of filler to get it to 13+ and/or having long breaks to work around time off and the current "season" paradigm on network TV (Fox included).

If television movies were still a thing, we'd probably be getting yearly movies by this point. But mini-series and movies on network television get terrible ratings these days.

From Variety:
The truth is still out there. Again.
Fox has ordered a new 10-episode revival of “The X-Files,” the classic television sci-fi drama that returned to the network’s air with a limited series last year. The new installments — billed as a continuation of the 10-episode 2016 run, will premiere during the 2017-18 television season. The production will again reunite original stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson with series creator and showrunner Chris Carter, and is slated to begin production this summer.
“The X-Files” tells the story of Fox Mulder (Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Anderson), paranormal investigators for the FBI.
“Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators – these are the hallmarks of great TV shows. And they are some of the reasons why ‘The X-Files’ has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide,” said David Madden, President, Fox Broadcasting Company. “Chris’ creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of ‘The X-Files’.”
The 2016 limited-series revival of “The X-Files” averaged a multiplatform audience of 16 million viewers, according to Fox. It also averaged a 4.8 rating in the 18-49 demo, according to Nielsen live-plus-seven numbers, making it the fifth highest-rated broadcast series of the season.
“The X-Files” premiered on Fox in 1993. It became one of the definitive programs of the network’s early years, earning 16 Primetime Emmy Awards over its initial nine-season run.
Fox in recent years has leaned heavily into revivals of successful past series, bringing back “X-Files”and “Prison Break,” which is currently in the middle of a nine-episode run, as well as “24: Legacy” earlier this season.
The 2016 “X-Files” revival received a lukewarm reception from critics. In his review for Variety, Brian Lowry wrote, “While the performers have aged in only the most flattering of ways, and Fox has milked the build-up for all it’s worth, there’s a feeling that everyone is just going through the motions, despite the durability of the show’s central conceit about distrusting authority and the prospect of shadowy conspiracies reaching into the highest levels of government and business.”

Great news! Hopefully Chris Carter won't be writing any of the episodes. Doubt it but I can hope.

I'll watch. I thought the last season was great. Just not sure how easily they go back from aliens flying over a crowded bridge and everyone on Earth having a dormant virus activated. I think I have that right. I haven't watched since they first aired.

Good news. Although, Chris Carter is back as showrunner and I assume he will direct a few episodes as well.
Hopefully they get more money for these 10 episodes and they're able to get a few other writers from the original series.
Frank Spotnitz should be available. I don't think his Canadian show Ransom will get renewed.
Also, Howard Gordon might be available if 24: Legacy gets cancelled.

I think most original fans enjoyed the comeback season, even if it was uneven. Critics really have no effect on a property as beloved as the X-Files.

I was really excited about The X-Files coming back last time, now I'm rather "meh" about it...probably because Carter stated last season that EVERY new season will end with a cliffhanger - he has no intention of ever trying to wrap things up.

I too am glad this is coming back. Last season's run had a few highs - while reaching some new lows - regardless, I'm in for some more Mulder and Scully.

Ugh...I'll watch it because I loved the original series but the 'comeback' was pretty piss poor. They really need to make some better episodes this time around.

Chris Carter finalized his writer's room for season 11.
Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan and James Wong are returning.
New writers hired. Here's who they are:
I kind of like that they are bringing in some new blood to help write season 11. The show could definitely use some new voices.

The quartet will be joined by relative newcomers Gabe Rotter (who served as a writers assistant on Season 9), Benjamin Van Allen (a writers assistant on Season 10) and Brad Follmer (Carter’s personal assistant during Season 8 and 9, and not to be confused with the character Brad Follmer, played by Cary Elwes in Season 9).
