At fist I thought this was a remake of the 90's show of the same name about a demon who was a small town sheriff. This seems sort of meh.

I loved the original American Gothic. That is one of the great single-season shows of all time. I guess it was made in the wake of Twin Peaks but it was shocking how edgy it was for network television at that time, looking back.

I would love to see them put the original on Blu-ray.

I have zero interest in this new interpretation (Boston, really?) but still say "There's someone at the door Caleb" in a slow Southern drawl every time the doorbell rings.

It's Antony Starr. Thread title says "Anthony" Not a biggie.

Taking a CBS job after Banshee must have included a big pay raise.

I did not recognize him from Banshee at all.

It actually held my interest. Kind of reminded me of ABC;s The Family, which I enjoyed.

Little kid is creepy. Took me awhile to recognize the guy from Shameless.

Re: American Gothic (CBS) -- Season 1 Thread -- S: Virginia Madsen, Antony Starr

It was an okay pilot, kind of what I expected given the cast and how CBS is positioning the show in marketing. I was surprised they revealed the mother's true nature so early on, I guess subtle mysteries are gone in this day and age of instant story gratification.

For some reason it reminded me somewhat of Stoker, a movie starring Nicole Kidman from a few years ago. The tone and direction were very similar. Both are about families with dark secrets.

It's not too bad so far.

Although I wonder what kind of filter they used to film this looks really dark.

Also Juliet Rylance's voice is amazing.

I'm about halfway through season 2 and I think I'm ready to pull the plug. Can't stand the annoying creepy kid and none of the characters are really interesting to me.

I think they made a mistake killing off the patriarch of the family in the first episode - it would have been more interesting to keep him around with them thinking he might be a serial killer.

Dont shows like this need at least one person that the audience can root for? I am having trouble finding that person.

Re: American Gothic (CBS) -- Season 1 Thread -- S: Virginia Madsen, Antony Starr

Writing on this show is sooo bad.
Guy dies from an air tube squeeze.
therapist fires the kid and says I can't help him get out and the parents never ask why.
Cop who is married to one of them thinks the "butler/gardener" did it.
Woman who lost her foot has a meeting with the owner of the company without her lawyer?

I'll keep watching because I want to know who the killer is.

I gave up after three episodes. This show is basically a soapy whodunit. It's not bad per se and the casting is pretty good, but I can see why CBS relegated this to the summer.

The child character is largely what drove me away. It's a weird sub-story likely foreshadowing that psychopathy runs deeply in the family.

Mom would be too obvious as the killer, right?

Re: American Gothic (CBS) -- Season 1 Thread -- S: Virginia Madsen, Antony Starr

Saw the thread title and thought this might be about Shaun Cassidy's American Gothic. Couldn't they have thought of a different name for this show? As far as I'm concerned, there is only one American Gothic series and this ain't it.

Banshee was over, pretty sure he wanted to keep working.
