The girl was screaming "Hold the door!"
Bran could hear it while still warging Hodor in the dream
It was the only thing they needed him to do
It was his last purpose
As Hodor died, his last thought was "Hold the door"
Which was connected, through warging, into his own self in the dream
As he died, his last thought was imprinted so hard into the dream of himself, that it took over entirely.
Hodor's last purpose went into his past and became his only purpose.
His only purpose from then on was to make it to that point and hold the door.
Wow. Thanks for posting!

That was FUCKING INCREDIBLE. What a fantastic payoff. That hits as hard as anything they've ever done. Ugh, like it was too good.

Oh and apparently that was George R R Martin's plan. He told the show creators about it. They talked about it in the Inside the Episode thing on HBO Go.

That play was great .... and I wonder what was up with Varys regarding the "screams from the fire."

I did get thrown off a bit with the wicker people in the tree. Summer? So those things were the seasons? When did we last see them, because I don't remember shit.

Summer was Bran's direwolf and the Children of the Forest have been around the Three-Eyed Raven since Bran showed up there.

Yep, best episode ever.

This season has been great. Really packed episodes.

I wonder how much they will advance the story in the last 4 episodes.

Littlefinger was pretty rattled, too. At least it's as helpless as I can ever remember him being.

In Season 2's episode "Blackwater", Varys tells Tyrion the story of how he was mutilated and the voice he heard from the fire. Even way back then, you could tell that he was deeply traumatized by what happened and why he hates magic so much. I wasn't surprised that he was rattled by Kinvara apparently reading his mind. Melisandre has shown similar abilities, so I guess the Red God's followers have some sort of telepathy.

I was gutted by the ending of tonight's episode. I think it's because Hodor was so pure, friendly, and selfless. You can't really say that about anyone else on the show. And poor Summer too.

This was Jack Bender's first episode directing GoT, he's was pretty much the main Lost director including "The Constant".

I'm assuming that GoT has been translated to various languages to be shown in other countries. I'm curious as to how they translated the name Hodor and if it actually matches up with "Hold the door" in those languages.

That's the only thing(s) keeping me from being totally crushed by this EP. Another dire wolf goes down and goddammit...

HODOR

------
Other stuff

-Yeah, baelish and Varys both being knocked down a peg in the same EP was weird. Wouldn't be surprised if baelish is still playing a long con and this is part of it)

-is kinvara an old witch too? She had the necklace on

-tormund's gotta step up his game

I'm sure the meaning was a secret. So if they translated the name, in the books, or in the show, it won't make sense.

I mean, it would be really easy for everyone to infer the Hodor meaning reading the translations if that was the case.

I'm sure they have, maybe twice in one scene (cersei's walk); just not directed by gaspar noe.
