No familiarity with the comics. I thought this was all over the place.
I will give it a few more episodes.

I don't want to keep comparing this to the comic -- this is a different beast -- but it looks like they are setting things up to take place in Annville, which would be a big mistake IMO. Preacher is a road story.

Jason - reminds me of when they were adapting Y: The Last Man into a movie - instead of making it an international journey, they changed it to cross country.

Color me doubtful on this one until I see more episodes. So far it feels waaaaay off the mark for Preacher. The characterization of Tulip is way off base and seeing they have Jessies dad as a preacher as well missed the whole point of Preachers father/son story and why he became a preacher in the first place. Ill give it some time to develop but Im not enthused.

That would have been a much better look on the show. I get the feeling that AMC's executives took the comic and then changed whatever they didn't like about it.

That Arseface design has nothing to do with the AMC show. It's a make up test from years ago, when Preacher was being considered for HBO.

I hope for the best, but I think this will end up being a show that might be fine, but it will not be the version of Preacher I was hoping for. But it might have opened up the gates for a better version to be done somewhere down the line. However this may be a case of damned if it succeeds, damned if it fails. If it does veer off from the comics and stays just in the town and becomes a success then a need to do a remake in the future will seem pointless. However, if it fails and the story veers off from the comics then it may be seen as a waste of money to try and remake in the future, especially trying to adapt the comics. I would actually love to see an animated version as that would get away with everything in the comics. But that will never happen.

I'll be curious as to what the producers will say on "Talking Preacher". I know I read one interview where they pushing the idea that when they sold the series to AMC, it was going to be a frame-for-frame adaptation ala "Sin City". Later, they felt that Ennis just dropped you in the middle of the story and it was going to be too much for viewers, so they felt they had to provide a prequel to the Comics instead. They said that AMC was surprised they weren't getting what they were sold.
I kind of got the feeling they wanted to be looked at as rebels because they chose not to faithfully adapt the property. Of course, maybe I misunderstood...

Gave this a watch last night. I've never heard of this comic series before so I went in knowing absolutely nothing. As others have stated, I didn't love it, but I also didn't hate it. I know it's only the first episode, but it feels like they are just dipping their toes into the "weird pool" instead of diving right in head first. They make it seem like such a straight, normal town but then introduce a vampire (I think), a preacher with Jason Bourne fighting skills, and a kid with an asshole for a face. It feels like it's scared to just go "Full Weird" and there is some disconnect for me. While I was never a huge fan of the show "Tru Blood," with that show you at least immediately understood the world set up and how humans and vampires co-existed.
The other issue I had is that right now, Cassidy is the only interesting character. And even with that said, once he's in the bar with Preacher, he becomes way less interesting as the episode finishes out.
Again, didn't love it, but didn't hate it. Hopefully the next few episodes can smooth out some of the groundwork this first episode tried to lay down.

The musical score for this episode was great. Willie's "Time of the Preacher" was an obvious choice for the opening.

I'd like to see how the show looks with a real director at the helm with episode #2 before I judge it.

Pilots are generally pretty rough, they seem to think they have to throw in everything to show the many directions the show can go while laying the groundwork for basically every character. I don't care for Dominic Cooper, he brings a hint of cheesiness to everything he's a part of, but he didn't bug me too horribly here.

Read the comic since issue 1, probably my favorite book of all time. That being said I went in jaded and for someone who loved it as much as Rogen says he does, they sure found a way to make it almost nothing like the book except for the names of the characters. I figure I've got about another 2 or 3 eps before I bail if it continues like this.

Seems roughly as close to the series as the Walking Dead is to the comics. I'm okay with that.

That's pretty much impossible to tell with just one episode, especially since TWD does a lot of things exactly like the comics on many occasions.

I didn't get half the stuff that was going on but it seemed interesting.

So Arseface gets subtitles but nothing for Cassidy? I suspect I missed a couple of his better lines cause he doesn't actually pronounce half of what he says.
I have read zero of the comics, but read a little about the series before watching. It wasn't exactly clear, but was that big invisible blob that blew up a few folks, and eventually confronted Custer in the church, supposed to the Judeo-Christian God?

Thinking back it also wasn't clear what was going on in the scene that ends with a naked woman at the window. Were we supposed to be know who was in that scene?
