Lady Dynamite (Netflix) -- Series Discussion Thread

Figured I'd make a thread for this. This is a highly unusual show from Maria Bamford, Mitchell Hurwitz (Arrested Development) and Pam Brady (South Park).

Just started it myself, it reminds me of Louie, by way of Arrested Development. It is a deeply strange look at I'm assuming mental health. It's like real life, if real life were a show with Patton Oswalt constantly making suggestions.

I guess we're the only two watching. I'm on E6. I like the cameos. From what I remember, back in the day, she had a fairly clean act so it's interesting to hear her curse.

I watched the first episode and thought it was just weird. I'm a big Arrested Development fan, and I've thought Bamford's stand-up is hit-or-miss. I appreciate the odd structure of the show with the meta stuff in there but it just didn't come across as very entertaining for me.

It's weird but I went along and finished the season. I liked it and would watch S2 if it happens.

I'm five or six episodes in and enjoying it. I guess she has a thing for Superman actors.

It improved dramatically with the second episode, IMO.

I took a couple weeks to start on this. I don't think it's getting a lot of buzz. Didn't know Hurwitz was involved until I started watching. This is an awesome show.

I'm enjoying this, but sometimes I have a hard time keeping track of what's before her time in Duluth and what's after.

That's part of what makes this (along with Arrested Development and 30 Rock) so rewatchable. I've watched those shows again and again, know most of them like a good song, and I still see new stuff every so often.

Did the final shot allude to multiple personality disorder in season two?

I was thinking it was a nod to bipolar disorder

Not much talk about this one. I think it's great. Nobody else watching?

I finished it last month. Maybe it's too offbeat for people?

Really hit & miss - but when it hit, it hit with enough laughs to keep me watching.

I watched it, and I enjoyed it enough that I would watch season 2. Her friend who hates the other friend were my biggest laughs.

I don't think it helped that the pilot was IMO the worst episode of the show.

Big fan of Bamford and a big fan of off kilter comedies shows and I'm not feeling this one. I made it through the first two and I'm going watch the third but that'll probably be it.

re: Lady Dynamite (Netflix) -- Series Discussion Thread

I've watched this season 5-10 more times. I'm lost on one joke in episode 1. Why do Maria and Bruce randomly turn into sheep while riding the Vespa?

I'm all-for dense comedy like this. No matter how many times I watch, I never see it referenced anywhere else.

Wow. I wasn't expecting that. Those who wanted some full-frontal of Maria, gets their wish in S2E1.

Re: Lady Dynamite (Netflix) -- Series Discussion Thread

Fred Melamed as Bruce is the highlight of this show.

The Future stuff is insane (good way to put it, as mental health is part of the story).
