Silicon Valley (HBO) -- Season 3 Thread -- Premieres 4/24/16

https://scontent.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0...c8&oe=57AB4AC1

After being unceremoniously fired, an angry Richard faces a tough decision: accept the diminished role of CTO, or leave Pied Piper for good. Erlich takes a shine to Jack Barker, Laurie's new choice of CEO, while Dinesh and Gilfoyle weigh their options in Richard's absence. At Hooli, Gavin tries to improve his image by admitting failure, and Big Head gets wind of major changes.

Written by Dan O'Keefe; directed by Mike Judge.

10 episode 3rd season

Renewed for a 4th season last week

I loved the Hooli scenes

"That's the most courageous thing I've ever seen"

This was a really strong episode, I thought. Erlich just steals every scene he's in, and I love it.

Good start, but the one gripe I had was Hendricks going to that new company with the mustaches and not knowing a single thing before on what the company was about. It was amusing, and he realized he made a mistake when they did that funny demo on him, but he should have known before hand.

And I want to be like Big Head, not do anything in a company like Hooli, get bumped to an executive position, then laid off and received a $20 mil severance package.

Re: Silicon Valley (HBO) -- Season 3 Thread -- Premieres 4/24/16

Except that they told him the mustache thing was a new/secret project. He was interested in updating their video platform, but they brushed that aside.

Ah, okay. I missed that part. That makes it a bit more sense. I loved it when he was dialing his phone and the mustache was trying to catch up to his face.

This continues to be one of the funnier shows on TV. It really benefits from its strong cast.

Solid 1st episode. I loved Gavin calling that big press conference and then doing the fake out and announcing that he was firing that entire department.

I thought season two was uneven and lost some of the spirit from season one. It's not a huge role but the autistic woman CEO character bothers me. I was hoping she'd get dumped from the show.

Very good first episode.
Actor who plays Dinesh has lost a ton of weight

Yes! I was cracking up so hard at that whole scene, especially when I saw it was that robot deer as soon as they hit it with the car.

I noticed that too. He was never really fat, but he seems to have lost a lot of facial fat.

Funny episode.

Love how Big Head keeps stumbling his way to some sort of success. 20 mill... time to retire. Why would he even be on the show any more?

Gavin's speech was hilarious. What a prick.

I would assume bighead will somehow come back and Piper.

Yeah, with $20mil, I could see the guys talking Bighead into funding a new venture for them.

Good premiere this week. I'll echo a couple sentiments already stated - Gavin's press conference was pretty funny. Such a slime ball. Loved Elrich and Barker's introduction as highlighted in one of the clips above.

No doubt, that's probably where they're going with it. But to be true to Big Heads nature - I would think he'd just retire. He can still help his friends out with funding, but it would be weird for him to work at PP when he's loaded and doesn't need the job. He's shown numerous times that he has absolutely no ambition, is lazy and is of average intelligence at best - so he wouldn't even do it as a hobby.

They're obviously going to keep him around though... and I'm glad because his situations are hilarious.

slop101 04-26-16 10:32 AM

Re: Silicon Valley (HBO) -- Season 3 Thread -- Premieres 4/24/16

Exactly - that's why they'd "talk him into it", as he'll probably do it just to hang out with them and be friends again.

bluetoast 04-26-16 10:42 AM

Re: Silicon Valley (HBO) -- Season 3 Thread -- Premieres 4/24/16

He's probably going to stumble into more and more fortuitous situations throughout the series, and do nothing else.

I suppose he'll end up buying a seat on the Pied Piper board later in the season, balancing it out and reinstating Richard as CEO.

I loved the video at the end showing all the possible threats to stealing data - with a candid shot of Dinesh being shown to represent "foreigners".

I haven't found this season as laugh-out-loud funny as last so far, but E02 was so dead-on re:the tension between sales and tech people.

I loved the CEO's "double triangle" chart or whatever chart it was...it brought back memories of Gartner's magic quadrants, and other goofy stuff anyone who's been through an MBA program secretly laughs about when they leave the classroom. They've got to have some writers with marketing backgrounds coming up with this stuff.

It's probably all from series co-creator James Altucher who's gone through all that stuff and more. You should check out his blog and stories; some fascinating stuff.

I loved all the prep, the montage, and laying the groundwork that they were going to spend at least part of this season working on a secret project, only to be completely ruined because Richard tripped

I'm wondering if the whole thing is a swerve and that the trip is all part of the plan.

It better be. It was quite awkward and the fact no one tackled Kevin(?) before he walked it into the big boss was lame. Everyone just stood there like dumbasses.

I don't think it was part of the plan, considering everyone was pissed at Richard for bringing the documents and wondered what the fuck he was doing.

Yeah but they also took the time out of the episode to point out how they needed to act the part. So maybe it's all part of it.

I don't know, just the feeling I get.

I thought the ending was funny as it is but it also seems that they went through a lot of set up for that the be the only payoff. Then again, pulling the rug out from underneath these guys is what the show does pretty often.

Yeah - along that note, it was funny to see Carla and expect her to help out, but then just demand her back pay.

I mean, it's in the name of the episode. :)

[Colonel Meinertzhagen] is frequently credited with a surprise attack known as the Haversack Ruse in October 1917: during the Sinai and Palestine Campaign of the First World War, according to his diary, he let a haversack containing false British battle plans fall into Ottoman military hands, thereby bringing about the British victory in the Battle of Beersheba and Gaza.
They know Barker will expect something underhanded, so they give him what he expects through extreme incompetence so he will lower his guard. But the plans aren't actually the real plans they prepared. They're all fake.

Serious tension next week, that teaser...
