Riverdale -- Based on Archie Comics -- Coming to The CW
Archie Comics kicks off 75th anniversary celebration with major news: The CW officially picks up “RIVERDALE” live-action TV pilot
2016 is sure to be a major year for Archie Comics, as America’s Favorite Teenager celebrates 75 years of existence. But the party kicked off in a major way today with news that The CW has officially picked up the pilot episode for the live-action “Riverdale” TV series, to start filming this spring.
The one-hour drama will be written by Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and produced by Warner Brothers Studios and Berlanti Productions and has been described as a subversive take on the classic Archie mythos. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schecter, Jon Goldwater, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa serve as executive producers.
The live-action series offers a bold, subversive take on Archie, Betty, Veronica, and their friends, exploring small-town life and the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome facade. The show will focus on the eternal love triangle of Archie Andrews, girl-next-door Betty Cooper, and rich socialite Veronica Lodge, and will include the entire cast of characters from the comic books—including Archie’s rival, Reggie Mantle, and his slacker best friend, Jughead Jones.
Popular gay character Kevin Keller will also play a pivotal role. In addition to the core cast, “Riverdale” will introduce other characters from Archie Comics’ expansive library, including Josie and the Pussycats.

I'd say I'm the biggest Archie reader on this site...I'm not one for these teen shows, but for Archie...fuck I'll at least check it out. It'll probably suck ass though.

I don't understand why it is a drama. This show should be a comedy and maybe even incorporate the Afterlife with Archie stuff as some dream (nightmare) sequences or something.

Seems like a pretty natural fit as there's been a ton of high school type shows and developing a series based on the Archie characters shouldn't be too hard. I don't mind the characters but not really sure that I'd watch it as I'm sure it'll just be a typical CW teen aimed series.

I agree with bluetoast that (1) he's probably the biggest Archie guy here, (2) I'll have to give this a try, and (3) this will probably be terrible. I like the Life and Afterlife with Archie comic series, though, so they could surprise me.

I read a ton of Archie comics back in the day. I'm excited to see a live action take on Archie and the gang. I hope it's good.

I grew up on Archie digests from the supermarket. I'll give this a whirl. Why not?
But Archie better be fucking Mr. Weatherbee...

Nope - Vampire Diaries and The Orginials. Riverdale will be the next town over from Mystic Falls and the gang will travel to New Orleans for Mardi Gras.
Or they could do a "Scooby-Doo" like episode with the Supernatural guys.

People should realize that Marvel and DC Comics have nothing to do with Archie Comics despite the occasionally memorable crossover. It's a brand owned by a separate company.

They just cast Cole Sprouse as Jughead and Lili Reinhart as Betty.
I'm happy with Reinhart as Betty. I liked her in The Kings of Summer and Surviving Jack.
I'm not happy with Sprouse as Jughead.

I remember a live action Archie show back in the early 90s, late 80's. Or maybe it was a made for TV movie.
