Re: How much DVR space do you currently have free?
40% free on an AT&T UVerse box.
Except for all 18 eps of Freaks & Geeks, everything else is movies. We've finally caught up on our day-to-day TV. |
Re: How much DVR space do you currently have free?
I'm pretty much caught up. The only thing I'm saving to catch up on is s3 of Blacklist. I'm still in the middle of S2 on disc. As soon as Blindspot and Castle come back on it will start to grow again.

Re: How much DVR space do you currently have free?
I got through most of my backlog over the holidays but now that shows are back on I am about 87% free.
|
Re: How much DVR space do you currently have free?
I had 9% before the Godfather Epic but surprisingly 3% after it was done so not as bad as I thought it would be.
I have a lot of saved NFL games which are cutting into a lot of space. |

If you add an external hard drive to the Genie, that takes over as the hard drive of record right?
Is it just as easy and plugging it in the USB port? You would lose your current recordings if you put it in before the current drive is cleared out?

Re: How much DVR space do you currently have free?
I just got a Tivo Roamio Pro, so that sucker has 95% free, and my Tivo Premiere in the living room now has about 37% free (at one point I was up to 95% capacity, but some bingeing, catching up on Hallmark films, and deleting some stuff gave me the 37%).

51%. I have got to figure out some way of archiving my stuff that's within my budget besides VHS tapes . And soon

Re: How much DVR space do you currently have free?
It takes over and internal drive becomes deactivated. You do not lose what is on there, but you can not access it unless you unplug external drive. You also have to set up everything again because it is like starting new. You plug it into an esata port, not USB. It is easy to do once you have drive, enclosure and the right cable. |

I am looking for a solution, never having more than 10% free. It is all matches, many of which I wish to keep. a 3 TB drive would work, but not sure if it is a good solution, especially depending on the answers to the above. Are there other good answers for archiving? Hauppage and a PC? |
Re: How much DVR space do you currently have free?
I'm right about 60% free.
|
Re: How much DVR space do you currently have free?
I've got about 40% free on my main DVR. I don't know about my secondary one, but it likely has less than that.
I'm about at the point where I'm going to just delete a few shows that are sitting there, but it won't free up all that much. My problem is recording movies, especially off TCM. Never enough time to watch everything. |
Re: How much DVR space do you currently have free?
I used to fight wit the family for digital space, but our cable company (a local outfit) recently upgraded our dual-tuner boxes (old one got fried, lost some stuff we wanted to keep). We now have a whole house system with an 8-tuner DVR. I'm not sure how big the storage is, but we are floating around 9 to 12 % full (88 - 91% free) now.

I used to use an external hard drive and once after a sudden reboot (maybe a power outage) it ignored the external drive and reverted to the internal drive. I was able to restart it but I recall I lost a lot because when it re-pairs with the DVR it re-configures the hard drive.

Forgive if a stupid question, but when you "unplug" the eSATA drive are the original programs available for normal viewing on the internal drive? More importantly, if you were to do this and then "plug" the external drive back in, would all of its contents be there?

FWIW, DTV doesn't recommended plugging and unplugging drives repeatedly. esata ports aren't like usb ones, designed to be used frequently. here's their info about the whole process: https://support.directv.com/app/answ...r-or-hd-dvr%3F |
Re: How much DVR space do you currently have free?
i've been purging lately because the tens of movies i have i know i will never watch despite them being in HD. so right now 66% free!!!
|
Re: How much DVR space do you currently have free?
About 50% of a stock TiVo drive.
Have a couple movies on there I need to get to, and this season of The Flash(watching but keeping) and AHS. Also have a season and a half of Star Wars Rebels I need to get to. Other than those I stay pretty caught up. |
How much DVR space are you using?
i have such OCD when it comes to my DVR. the less % the better. too much puts me on edge. i keep recording things that i know i'll never watch. like impulse recordings. i mostly just watch current stuff that makes me feel good. so i delete the extraneous and feel mostly ok with it. some things will never leave the DVR, like The Godfather Epic (the chrono of I & II) that was aired on HBO last January, unless a bluray comes out. oh, and an HD version of Mischief with Kelly Preston. looking forward to revisiting again...
so i like to leave about 50%, that makes me feel ok. i usually keep it at close to 70-80% full. that stirs me a bit. just don't have time to watch what i should be and have always liked. just liked to watch 1 movie with my 2 hour window i give myself at night... so how much space is used by your shows and movies and stuff? and does it kill you or are you ok with it? |

10%. Can't stop adding movies.
|
Re: How much DVR space do you currently have free?
Whoops.
|
Re: How much DVR space do you currently have free?
99% I'm very conscientious about keeping my recordings managable.
|
Re: How much DVR space do you currently have free?
1%-3% empty
|
Re: How much DVR space do you currently have free?
currently 88% full... time to delete some stuff I'm not gonna get to..
|
Re: How much DVR space do you currently have free?
I have 7% free. I have hundreds of movies recorded that I just dont want to delete at this moment in time. I keep watching the few I haven't seen before and I delete the odd one or two. Very few TV shows do I keep and delete almost all those.
