Homeland (S5E09) -- "The Litvinov Ruse" -- 11/29/15

The CIA and BND make a play.
Episode 9 of 12
Been kind of lagging on this most of the season, but got caught up last week. After 8 weeks, I have to say this is probably the least compelling season arc of the entire show's run.
The wig that Miranda Otto wore in last week's episode was pretty horrible. There was no need for it.
One question I had that I'm not sure was addressed. Why was Carrie's last name different in the flashback?

I would hope to think producers are smart enough not to kill Quinn, but I think I am giving them too much credit.
I live how Alison turned the tables and claimed she is running the Russian guy. Running a guy for 12 years and nobody knows about it. Right.

yeah, that would hold up under about 5 minutes of scrutiny.

This is an organization that still employs a guy who's had two catastrophic classified data breaches at his computer and has let a woman with severe mental illness dictate how she is going to run important intelligence bureaus so anything is possible.

I feel kind of dirty defending the show, but part of the deal made when Allison turned was that her Russian guy was going to provide her credible intelligence in return to help her rise up the ranks. So in a way, she was telling a partial truth in that he was her source.

That was pretty clever of Allison to make up that BS story on the fly and look serious about.
Is there anything credible for Allison to use to back up her BS story, especially with her claiming it's been going on for 12 years. She just made that up in desperation. Of course, this being Homeland, they'll find a way to make her pack of lies look credible.
The last thing I expected from this season was seeing Miranda Otto being a slut.
at Saul's reaction to her getting banged in the kitchen.
I really hate seeing Quinn injured and down the last several weeks.

Allison's ruse shouldn't hold up for long, but as others have pointed out the CIA isn't all that bright in this show.

Wow, I just saw that we still have 3 more episodes of this season. I guess I agree with DJariya on this season being lackluster.
Not a big enemy, they already found out about Allison and they will need another 3 episodes to resolve this? Really? Or maybe just 2 and the last one will be just filler. This season should've been just 10 episodes.

I'm sure quinn's buddy who injected him drilled some holes in the safe chamber so the only people who are affected will be all the terrorists!
I laughed at Allisons quick thinking -- Laughed I did. enjoyed that I did.

I actually wondered if that was a possibility. Good Guy Terrorist sticks himself and Quinn with pens, and since he created "highly unlikely" leaks from the chamber into the room it is enough to at least disable the terrorists such that he and Quinn can make their escape.

Yeah the whole Allison thing is really lame. So now what, back to believing her and Saul's the bad guy?
For next season guys, no mole please. And if you have a mole, please don't have that mole sleep with Dar or any high-up in any organization.

I liked this ep, that was a pretty good 10 minutes following her out, thats what I wish this show would do more of, that was great stuff.
hated the flip on the end, but I get it for a plot device...

I understand people's reservations about outragous plot holes in the show, but for some reason it never bothered me because it always been like that since the show's inception.
My only beef with the show is it has turned into a plot-driven show, and kind of gotten away with fleshing out the characters. What I liked about the early seasons is they delved into these characters lives dealing the cause/effects of their jobs. Now they just touch on it during the season, but nothing substantative.
I liked how they showed Saul's personal struggle with his wife in the first few seasons, now they cooked up this romance with Allison and it looks like an episode of Melrose Place. Now they just throw in one episode per season of Carrie's struggles, but there is no arc to it like the early seasons. The show has kind of turned into a network TV show where they rely on plot twists over character development.
