That was a really good use of an interview cut-away.
Didn't notice that.
That was very clever and reminded me of Frasier.
I hope you enjoyed that lively conversation.
Mitch calling halftime "intermission"?
I also loved the back and forth between Cam and Mitch making toast for French people, and whether or not it should be called French toast.
I hope you enjoyed that lively conversation.

Damn that's a nice chunk of change. Wonder what Phil gets compared to her, though. Seems like the ones really making it on the show are Sophia, Sarah, and the guy playing Phil as they are making commercials and movies outside of Modern Family.

C: Did you make the French toast?
M: Yes, it's right on the counter.
C: That's French toast!
M: What's happening?
C: I wanted regular toast for the French people.
M: Surely there was a better way to describe that.

Thought this week's was fun. I always like it when they have different pairings. Especially Gloria and Cam together.
When Alex was video chatting with Luke and the girl came in behind her I was like "GAH, isn't her roommate like 15?" But then it wasn't her roommate. Whew.
And I liked getting more of the backstory on Closets Closets Closets Closets. The fact that there are four "Closets" makes me laugh every time.
I liked Dylan giving Phil nicknames but it's time for him to go. I do like it when Phil and Claire's history together gets thrown back in their face. But it's time for Dylan to head out again - Haley has grown too much as a character to backslide into this relationship.

I really liked this week's episode. All the storylines were pretty good.
lol at Jay and Cam and the "deal".
I wonder what happened with Manny?

Agree here. Don't like the re-hash of Dylan. As the father of a daughter roughly the same age, didn't like the scene where Phil found them in bed. I admit it, I'm a pussy. Would not want to see that. For that reason I ended up not watching the rest of the episode.

AV Club wasn't too fond of the episode (C+ grade), but I enjoyed it for finally exploring the Closets Closets Closets Closets rivalry (and the fact that there's another closets place called Of Course It's Closets, but Jay is ok with them). I'd like to see Jon Polito stay as a recurring character.
I wonder if they're leading to a college flame-out for Alex due to homesickness. Despite her overachieving nature, it's not unheard of. I flamed out in college too, although mine was a little closer to Haley's.

I liked this episode. This show can still bring it every so often. I agree that Dylan needs to go and I'm sure he will. I can't imagine them completely ditching the Andy story line in favor of putting Haley with Dylan.
This show really does seem to work best when they shake up the pairings. I think Mitch and Cam are a lot better when they're not together.

The only reason they brought Dylan back was to give Haley something (or someone) to do. I suspect Andy is who she'll end up with and marry in the series finale - but they have time to kill before that relationship actually happens. In the meantime, she'll have dumb story lines. What bothers me most about Dylan is his voice. Don't know if his wooden delivery is purposely done or natural, but it's annoying.
They already had Haley drop out of college - it would be dumb if Alex burned out as well.
What they should've done to keep them around is have Phil get a deal on a house on the same block and buy it (he's a realtor after all)... and rent it out to Haley with her full-time job... and Alex goes to a college close by and moves in with Haley and pays rent with her part-time job. The two of them living together could've added more story lines while they're still able to drop by the Dunphee house when needed.

They could still do that plot (Alex and Haley get a house) if Alex has to leave school.
I agree that Alex dropping out would be a rehash of Haley's storyline, but it could also be a way for the two sisters to really bond as adults. In fact, my theory was bolstered a little last night when I watched a rerun of the previous season premiere. I forgot that Alex flamed out of Habitat for Humanity because no one there liked her. Alex doesn't make friends very easily, and could find herself VERY alone in college (which they've already depicted). Plus, she's suddenly not the smartest person in the school by a long shot, something I can relate to personally. Wouldn't surprise me if she needs the chaos of the Dunphy house to balance her academic work, as well as give her something sane to focus on.

Being that they noted that the school was only 30 minutes away, they could have her move home and commute to school. Flaming out of school completely worked for Haley but if they do the same with Alex it would just be depressing.

Didn't care much for Gloria's storyline (although her rack looked fantastic) but the rest of the show was top notch.
Loved the Phil and Lily pairing, and the Luke and Mitchell pairing. The call-back with the bird seed. Even Cam was good.
Fast-paced. Lots of clever gags.
I ain't afraid of no goats.

I wish they hadn't spoiled the Claire/birds scene in episode previews. Julie Bowen was fantastic in that, and had it happened without me expecting it, I think I'd have been on the floor.
As for Gloria, I appreciated that storyline because (long personal aside here) of my work at Asian and Latino film festivals. At the Asian festival, our guests are many TV and movie actors like Daniel Dae Kim, George Takei, Grace Park, Sandra Oh, Ellen Wong, John Cho, etc. These people will hang out in the theater lobby, and it's no big deal. But for the Latino festival, it's many of the telenovela actors and actresses (I can't name any, as I don't follow the genre). We have to hide them in a green room away from the festival patrons, and when they're going to do an appearance, we have to escort them through the bowels of the theater and bring them in from the emergency exits. We do this because if they ever showed up in the theater lobby or even walked into a theater from the regular entrance, they'd get mobbed by crazy fans just like Gloria was tonight on the show. So that was an aspect of telenovela fans I can personally relate to.

There was more Dylan than Alex in this latest episode. (Did she even have a scene? No aftermath of the breakup besides last week's ending scene?)

It ain't the Alex Dunphy show. Let the character live in some semblance of a reality where she isn't running home from college all the time, which would be true to her nature.

I'd rather them break reality and shoehorn Alex than Dylan.
hell, show some stuff from her in college; ongoings with kooky room / dorm mates or something

Even Haley had only 2-3 minutes of screen time. Clearly this episode did not feature the Dunphy daughters. Dylan's short sequence actually provided some laughs (the rest of the Dunphys couldn't follow the logic of Phil's twisted wording of "Who would hate to miss out on...", where Dylan couldn't even follow a straight-forward question)
