While the episode itself isn't all that special, it's all in the payoff at the end.

Breaking Bad
I agree that Breaking Bad never had a bad season. But I don't know if I'd put it in the category of "Long Running." Officially, it was 6 seasons, but I think many people think of the last season as a 16-episode season with a break.

While it has its ups and downs, I found every season of House to be pretty enjoyable, despite the repetition and terrible finale.

Criminal Minds is going into season 11 and honestly I don't think it's really had a truly bad season. Even the season that Paget Brewster and AJ Cook got dropped from the show IMO wasn't bad.

I've watched 10 of NCIS's 12 seasons regularly and while there are some weak episodes here and there, they also haven't had a truly bad season.

I also think The Closer on TNT had a pretty good 7 season run without a bad season.

So is this "never had a bad season" or "every season amazed you"?

How long did a series need to run to be "long-running"?

I would guess 5 seasons minimum would be fair to call it long-running.

Curb Your Enthusiasm
Game of Thrones
The Larry Sanders Show
Breaking Bad
Peep Show
Trailer Park Boys

If season 5 lives up to previous standards we'll be able to add Arrested Development.

Re: Long running shows that never had a bad season?

Really shocked people are saying Breaking Bad? The middle of the series was just so bad. That whole Mexico thing, ugh. It certainly got better towards the end and the start wasn't bad, but it was unbearable at times. I still think, if you had the start and middle of Dexter and add the end of Breaking Bad together, you will have the greatest TV show of all-time. And as much as people love Daryl, his acting is awful on The Walking Dead as is Carl's. There's been some awesome characters (Shane, Meryl, Governor, the two girls who looked at the flowers, Melissa McBride has stepped up on some episodes) but overall, an entire season, just isn't happening.

Thinking back, I can't really say there has been a TV show that I watched that every season was spot on. Dexter, Seinfield, South Park, Family Guy, King of the Hill, Secret Life of An American Teenager, etc. all have made me lost interested or upset at some point. There's some TV shows I need to watch (Buffy, Charmed, Lost, Six Feet Under, Nip/Tuck) that may change my mind, but nothing outstanding that I can think of. Hell I loved Ducktales, but even that faded in and out at times.

I'd agree with Breaking Bad, The Shield and Curb. I'd throw in Parks and Rec. I personally liked all seasons of Justified but I know a lot of people hated 5.

The beginning and middle of Breaking Bad were much better than the end. Outside of "Ozymandias" the final season, and the finale in particular, was disappointing.

My picks:
- The Shield (it didn't even have a bad episode!)
- The Wire (season 5 wasn't bad, just not as great as the previous 4.)
- Game of Thrones (so far...)
