Quinlan looks like an awesome character. Why did it take so long to add him?

They teased it a bit with "Vaughn." I don't remember how far in the books we were in before Quinlan appeared, though. I'm sure they had to spread that out in the show since it's been designed as a 5 season show.

Why is Quinlan immune to sunlight, unlike all the other vamps, and why does he need human agents if he can act in daylight?

Is he immune though? I thought he kept his skin covered in every scene, always looking down as to keep his face out of the sunlight.

I thought that was more to conceal his appearance, though he doesn't shy away from talking to normals in medieval villages. They are probably more used to disfigurements than us. In the gladiator scene he's completely exposed to sunlight.

He had mud or caked mud on. That scene in the arena, right before he fights, he kneels and covers himself up in a bit of mud. Like Arnold in Predator.

I didn't notice his head, chest, and back covered in mud, and he removed his armor which would have blocked sunlight.

I don't think he's 100% immune since they did transport him all over in a concealed sedan and even a refrigerated seafood truck in a previous episode. I'm sure they'll show how he keeps up.
He is like Blade except he does have vampiric features. He looked even creepier in the books and graphic novels without ears and all.

I saw the beginning, but have yet to finish the episode (busy Sunday nights!) ...
The Roman patron did say Quinlan is a half human-half vampire (but I didn't catch how). Quinlan did cover himself with some mud, but you could see some steam/smoke coming off of him while he was in the gladiator arena.
Honestly, I could spend a whole season (maybe even a series?) on the concept set in ancient Rome.

It looked comparable to any set that was in Spartacus - if that's what you mean.

He doesn't mean a SET, like the soundstage etc. he means a show that takes place in ancient Rome that features Vampires would make for a decent concept.

Man, Eldritch is going to tap that hot piece of ass? Jealous.
Quinlan (spelling?) is a pretty cool character. Hopefully he stays around for awhile.

Thank you Markam ... I was trying to figure out why Palmer wasn't experiencing any ill-gotten "side effects." I suppose no worms makes sense, but then why is he the only one like this? What is the Master's end-game with Palmer (you know a shoe has to drop eventually)?

I presume his plan is "string him along, use him, and discard him."

Setrakian's eye-juice seems similar to me.

So Fet sets up explosives on the columns on the ground floor - but then somehow above that, the ceiling collapses on just the Master and no one else, on a floor above, and he just happens to disappear with zero means for him to do so (during daytime, no less). This show still makes no goddamn sense.
