Haven't seen Annie Parisse since L&O. Really liked her in this.

Vinyl (S1E06) -- "Cyclone" -- 3/20/16

Devon (Olivia Wilde) seeks refuge at the Chelsea Hotel with Ingrid (Birgitte Hjort Sorensen), a friend from her Warhol days. Meanwhile, Richie (Bobby Cannavale) falls into a deeper well of drugs and depravity, enabled by Ingrid's nihilistic boyfriend, Ernst (Carrington Vilmont). Andrea Zito (Annie Parisse) rejoins American Century and immediately outlines her plans to revive the label. Kip (James Jagger) follows an unlikely path towards recruiting Alex (Val Emmich), a new lead guitarist for the Nasty Bits. Zak (Ray Romano) allows his raw emotions to surface at the end of his daughter's Bat Mitzvah.

Written by Carl Capotorto & Erin Cressida Wilson; directed by Nicole Kassell.

Olivia Wilde was on Howard Stern this week promoting the show. Said she gets naked in this ep. and shows off a fake 70s bush.

The flaws remain clear as day but I'm hooked on the show now until the end of the season. Just curious wth all this is building up to. That Bowie and Ronson, shit man.

In the after-credits preview it shows that he's quitting cold turkey so we'll see.

Did Richie bang the receptionist or was that another girl when he skipped that meeting?

The Bowie scene was great, we need a lot more of that and a lot less of richie off the wagon.. Brutal

Wilde did get naked and you can tell she's not as toned as she used to be - post-baby body and all. The beginning threw me off with Richie's "german friend." I was like, what the fuck? I did like the Buddy Holly ending - that was great and Richie's secretary is smoking hot - he even sucked on those titties - fughetaboutit!

Vinyl (S1E07) -- "The King and I" -- 3/27/16

Looking to raise cash for his label, a newly sober Richie (Bobby Cannavale) flies to LA with Zak (Ray Romano), hoping to sell the company jet to Lou Meshejian (John Ventimiglia), a rival record exec. After attending a beachfront party teeming with many of Lou's music clients, Richie and Zak head to Las Vegas in hopes of somehow convincing Elvis Presley (Shawn Klush) and his manager, Colonel Parker (Gene Jones), that the King should ditch his label and sign with American Century. The detour includes a steamy encounter in which Zak's fantasies come true, at a price.

Written by David Matthews; directed by Allen Coulter.

If that is the kind of stuff he pulls while sober, maybe Richie should just stay drunk or high. They had me when mentioning the 90k cash upstairs and then showing the 2 girls look at each other. I figured the whole time they would steal it. Do the writers not want us to care if they save the company?

Wow... what a dick.

EDIT: I admit, though, that I laughed at the Mama Cass joke.

Just finished this episode. You are right. Loved the one and only Bowie scene, but the coked out Ritchie stuff was absolutely unwatchable. I can't think of a less interesting protagonist on any prestige TV drama. I thibk I might be out on this show. Some of it is good, but the lead is just maddening.
And I saw the Tyler Durden twist coming from the second scene with Ernst. We've seen that stunt too many times since The Sixth Sense to fall for it anymore.

And it occurred to me that this was one of two HBO shows that Sunday night to close with a cover of "Life on Mars?" as Lena Dunham used it to end the Japan episode of Girls. Weird coincidence to say the least.

Re: Vinyl (S1E07) -- "The King and I" -- 3/27/16

Thought this was a good episode - had a Mad Men vibe going for it. Seemed like a Don and Roger trip to LA in a parallel universe. Good scenes with Elvis and liked that they included Colonel Parker. Too bad Elvis got a bad rap for including "Polk Salad Annie" in his Vegas shows.

Also, to "Hocus Pocus" by Focus. I actually have an old copy of that album.

Re: Vinyl (S1E07) -- "The King and I" -- 3/27/16

Looks like the theme of the show is Nasty Bits, with an impersonator each week.

I'll take that, with less coke and drugs of Richie, although now they got Ray Romano in the act. Ugh.

The Elvis stuff was good, and tragic. Would have loved a '73 Album stripped down with him.

Best part of the show are these nostalgic bits. Good job by the Elvis impersonator this week, good job last week by the Bowie guy

Yeah, he just slid from one vice to another, with the typical disastrous results.

They handled Elvis well....and the Colonel.

Interesting seeing them do the old LV Hilton, where Elvis performed. Have been there so many times.

A good episode and the show is better without Devon Richies wife or that intern who got abused by the guys in the afros.

It is rock n' roll and you don't get married!

Only 3 episodes left. Wow Time flies.

I saw Robert Plant at the LVH about 10 years ago and he was reminiscing about how he and Jimmy Page had sat over there and watched Elvis on that very stage in about this time frame. It was cool.

I'm really hating this show. Hard to think of a bigger asshole protagonist than Ritchie. I have zero interest in him or his plight any more. I keep wondering why Terrence Winter wants us to root for this piece of shit.

Yeah, it's strange. The way the story is presented, it's like we're supposed to have some kind of sympathy for Richie and whatever plight he's going through, but he's such an arrogant, entitled asshole who treats everyone around him like shit, he could end dead in a gutter somewhere and everyone would think, yeah, fuck him.

Vinyl (S1E08) -- "E.A.B." -- 4/3/16

Rebuffed by a loan officer with high-school ties to Zak (Ray Romano), a desperate Richie (Bobby Cannavale) approaches Maury (Paul Ben-Victor) about doing a deal with Galasso (Armen Garo). Devon (Olivia Wilde) and Ingrid (Birgitte Hjort Sorensen) make the scene at Max's Kansas City, where Devon impresses photographer Billy McVicar (Richard Short) with her ability to charm a major celebrity into giving up his photo. Tasked by Richie to come up with a new song, Kip (James Jagger) and the Nasty Bits get a crash course in the blues from Lester (Ato Essandoh). Andrea (Annie Parisse) fires a longtime American Century employee, angering Richie. Clark (Jack Quaid) finds musical enlightenment from Jorge (Christian Navarro), his onetime mailroom nemesis.

Written by Riccardo DiLoreto & Michael Mitnick; directed by Jon S. Baird.

That wasn't Yoko with him. I'm pretty sure they said her name, but I can't remember what is was.

I think that was Peter Tosh...or maybe both him and Marley. I was going to watch the scene again, but I already erased it.

Probably the most music-oriented episode of the season.

The girl with Lennon was May Pang, who Lennon lived with for 18 months while split from Yoko. I didn't know this, had to use Wikipedia.

And that was obviously Marley, with Peter Tosh still in the band. Generally, any act on the show that is not an American Century artist is supposed to be the real thing.

And now, Conway Twitty...
