That's what Cuse and his writers have planned creatively. And I'm sure the show will last 5 seasons, but it's not official until FX greenlights it. I should have clarified that.

Here's the interview where he gives all these nuggets. He talks about this around the 4 minute mark.

Cool episode but for those that have read the books
I don't remember that happening. Hell, i couldn't remember if
I guess this is what DJ was talking about in terms of this season being 80% new.
Oh, and the kid needs a severe backhand.

Oh Zack.. god, what a little shit stain.
Also, the foley work on this show must be easy as fuck. Just make chaos noise on every planning shot of the city.

I was really worried about the kid's safety last season, but this season I'm just like "Let him die already".

I was surprised they killed off the good vampires. I'm not really sure why the one vampire didn't try to save himself.
Man that kid is turning into Barbra Gordon. I know kids do dumb things but they went way overboard.
If the master can see through vampires I can't see releasing the infected vampire working. The master would know about and just have it kill itself.

maybe they didn't kill them off. they landed in some sort of pit below the floor. maybe he kept them alive for info.

80% new material? it shows! and why though? there's 3 books worth of shit to pull from and you get a subplot about some chick looking for her past lesbian lover? really?! WHY?!
At this point i kinda wish i hadn't read the books because all this new stuff is really distracting.
And where the hell is
Feels like the show is just meandering around, wasting time.
I still like the universe it's in and will of course keep watching but it's frustrating seeing the show just go left when there's books telling it to go right!

I like that they keep showing the goth rocker since he was part of the original infected. Are the rest of them dead? I know the little girl is. I can't remember the other people on the plane, but that would be a nice bit of continuity if they continued to show what happened to them.

The S1 finale scene with the Master showed us that UV doesn't immediately kill all of vampires. I expect we will see those "good" vampires again. At least Vaun at a minimum.
If the Professor has been "doing" worms for years, then why the extended lab work scene? Is this an element that is from the books, and does it explain why he has to keep researching rather than just doing what he has done before?

That fact that Coco Marchand the real estate agent happens to be a super-genius writer (who also keeps old dude's calendar for him) leads me to believe that the producers just hired random real estate agents to write this show for them.

The kid's actions have grown annoying. The producers had to have known the audience would grow to hate him after this storyline.
