Spoiler:
In the first four episodes of the second season of True Detective, Nic Pizzolatto has offered a number of clues to the identity of who killed Vinci city manager Ben Caspere and subsequently complicated gangster Frank Semyon’s (played by Vince Vaughn) multi-million dollar land deal ahead of a planned a high-speed railway project.

Paul Woodrugh (played by Taylor Kitsch) killed Caspere.

Paul Woodrugh is the Oedipus character, in a fugue state on his motorcycle when he returns to the picnic table where Caspere’s corpse is seated (Season 2, Episode 1); in a fugue state returning to the homosexual military cohort’s residence to spend the night (Season 2, Episode 4). As he attempts to repress what disturbs him most, Woodrugh dissociates at times and is not fully aware of his actions. He commits acts that he would not otherwise commit, and subsequently he does not remember those acts.

Detective Dixon (played by W. Earl Brown) suspected Woodrugh, but now Dixon is dead (Season 2, Episode 4).

In Season 2, Pizzolatto counts on his audience to overlook what is hiding in plain sight, just like Season 1.

And don’t forget, there is a videotape in the second season of True Detective, just as there was in the first season. There is always a videotape – it is an ironic and necessary ingredient in the Pizzolatto literary formula because after all, like Caspere, most people like to watch . . .

I live among you
Well disguised

That's awesome if true. #jawdrop

Didn't they already show Caspere, already dead, slumping in the back seat of a car with his head hitting the window, long before Woodrugh found him?

I'll have to re-watch the first episode. That sequence of Caspar in the car may have been edited out of sequence to throw folks off.

Well, there's "unreliable narrator", and then there's just bullshit manipulation.

And considering how fucked up these people are then i wouldn't be surprised.

Shit, makes me want to do a mini-recap of the first 4 episodes before Sunday's 5th.

You're missing my point. If this were the case, that would be more on the writers, as in [i]bad writing[/b] than it would be on "fucked up characters". But at this point, it wouldn't surprise me since the writing's been pretty bad.

The whole car thing puts a huge hole in the theory. Unless Woodrugh has a car that he doesn't know about.

That or there's more than 1 killer.

I also had to look up the word "fugue" so don't think I'm all ZOMG it's the best thing ever. I just thought it was a clever way of fucking with people if it turns out to be true.

Woodrugh is an anagram of "I am the crow". now it all fits.

And Frank Semyon is "Forsake Mnny" so now it's really, really clear.

Re: True Detective (S2E04) -- "Down Will Come" -- 7/12/15

I just finished watching this past weekend's episode again. So
Spoiler:
what's so weird about them surviving
? You guys have been watching too much GOT - wrong show, people.
Spoiler:
2/3rds of the crowd ran off and the rest were mowed down including cops and some were killed by the cops themselves in the crossfire. It makes perfect sense that our primary cast survived. They're now bound by this event. I'm sure they'll work together to find out who set them up. I'm sure the crooked ass Mayor had something to do with it.

Spoiler:
Also, to those that didn't like that there was no response team or SWAT - I'm sure that bit must have been delayed by the same crooked ass Mayor and the Chief of police, who are probably in cahoots with each other.

I don't vouch all the way with the fugue state in terms of Woodrough being the killer but there's something going on when he knocks his former fling down on the ground and almost pulls a gun on him then winds up in the guy's bed the next day. What happened there? Fugue state, duh.

Keep it up cynics. For all the ragging on the show We'll see you back again Sunday night.

I spoilered it but if you haven't seen it then you or anyone else who hasn't seen it shouldn't be in this thread. FYI

No spoiler tags necessary in episode threads after episode has aired on the West coast.

The issue wasn't that they survived, the issue was that they're the only ones that survived. It just looked contrived and silly.

I was talking about his speculative info based on the article comments. I read them, but it's definitely spoilerish.

Oh, and it's the
Spoiler:
Woodrough being the killer stuff
I found potentially spoilery. Not anything that happened in this episode.

Oh, and another theory:
Spoiler:
There's more than one killer. No way was the Crow man the same person that burned their car and ran off in episode 3.

I'm thinking this is some weird
Spoiler:
cult
shit.
Spoiler:
McCadams father and him knowing the other therapist from episode 2 and knowing the mayor and his father back in the day.

They could all be in it together. What say you? Doe it make better sense than
Spoiler:
Woodrough
being the killer?

This season just needs a true straight man to cut through all this poetic, yet creepy speeches.
