May be late to this news but I just learned that Miguel Sapochnik directed Episode 6 of this season. Kinda wish we could just skip straight to that one.

I'm pretty sure Paul is trying to forget his past and move on ... John Carter and Battleship.

It was a little too on the nose that Ray decided to stop drinking and get his shit together in the same episode they played Detox Mansion by Warren Zevon while he's lying on the floor after getting shot.
A cover of the Conway Twitty version of the Rose was an interesting choice though, and it's always good to see Fred Ward.
I'm still a little confused and generally ambivalent about the Vince Vaughn scenes.

Kind of boring. Felt like mostly a filler episode. Not a very strong follow up to Velcoro getting shot.
And the worst kept secret, he's not dead. Why did the heck would the crow shooter use buck shot?
I guess Paul had some kind of fling with one of his soldier buddies and he's trying to forget about it and move on. I loved how really uncomfortable Paul was in that club with those 2 male hookers.
That fist fight that Semyon got into was pretty silly.
I don't have to much else to add. It was filler, moving on to next week.

The not-dead part feels like a really cheap misdirection, to me.
If this wasn't called True Detective, I wouldn't think it was the same show as S1.

Anyhoo - this was an episode that could've been done in half the time. And it's not like I'm not looking for action (both "action" scenes, the fight and the chase were pretty lame), no, it seems the plot and the character development is slow, mostly because it's really thin and not much of it, not because that's their style.

Loved that opening. Felt kind of Twin Peaks-esqe. Very happy Ray is still with us. Colin Farrell is amazingly watchable in this. Other than that the show is a slog. I want to be invested in Frank either as a villain or an anti-hero but he's not very compelling as either. Paul is just a boring character. We get it - you're a closeted homosexual. Not super-compelling in 2015 in the absence of any other character traits.
I do wonder what actually happened in that traffic stop in Episode 1. Did he take her up on the offer? Did he cite the actress?

I'm out.
If there are raves when the season is over, I'll go back and catch it on On-Demand. But I'm just fucking bored. I don't give two shits about the mystery. The actors look as bored as I feel.

30 mins in this episode my fiancee turned to me and said "I don't really like this show anymore" And I feel asleep before the ending. Snooze of an episode. Without Collin, I don't think I would keep going.

I thought it was ok. This episode might get better after I know more what is going on. Right now everything is still up in the air and confusing but that seems to be by design. Or maybe the entire show is a hot mess.
The things I'm worried about are the adopted son story, bad relationship with boyfriend, and sexuality of the cop. All these things seem like they might not have any payoff.

the show reminds me of/feels like The Bridge. It doesn't make any fucking sense and yet i keep watching it. things happen, but nothing really happens. i need some titties on a sunday night, so i guess i am sticking with it until someone of minor note takes their top off.
it feels like it has all the parts that should make it compelling to watch, but somehow something just isn't quite working.

I'm a little shocked that we're this far into the thread and no one is calling BS on the whole rubber buckshot in the shotgun deal. I think anyone knows that those shotgun blasts would have torn him apart at that range (especially that second shot), no matter what was in that gun.

As already stated, I don't like that they did this, but:
^Maybe the shooter loads his own shells? He could use a smaller amount of powder?
I really don't know anything about loading shells, but I can accept that there would be a way to load a shell that it wouldn't be lethal at close range.
