I went from feeling sorry for the blonde synth to actively disliking her. Shes a sociopath. Killing is her answer to everything.

I hope it gets renewed too but the ratings are abysmal. There are only 2 shows on this list with worse ratings.

It's getting good ratings in the UK. That and the shared production costs point to a renewal.

I need to get caught up on this show. But I'm happy about the renewal.

It's kinda lame how spineless the father was about banging Anita - after all, it's really no different than masturbating with a rubber pocket pussy. Embarrassing, yes but certainly not cheating. No different than a woman using a vibrator or dildo and fantasizing about her favorite movie star - is that cheating? Not to mention how these type of shows always emphasize how skeezy men are when personally I think the first adopters of sexbots would be women. After all, women have been using artificial genitalia a helluva lot longer than men have - I understand that dildos thousands of years old have been found at archaeological sites and depictions are even older. Even with synths this life like (which brings up another point - why make them so life like? I mean unless your'e specifically building a sexbot, why bother? And in any case, in such a society, wouldn't you want to be able to readily tell humans from robots? Make them humanoid but not indistinguishable.) it would be a hell of a lot easier to make a realistic penis than a life like vagina.

I thought tonight's episode was spectacular. In fact I think each episode has been better than the previous one.

William Hurt was exceptional in his scenes, though I think he has not been 100% honest about his work.

So glad this was renewed.

So would the male synth walk around with a hardon all the time or would the human push a button to inflate the penis. Seems just like you mention a pocket pussy that a synth could easily have that built in with no problems. The other question is for those so inclined can they have the buttsex as well. Can't leave that crowd out.

Great news on the renewal. I wasn't too optimistic, but am glad to see a deal was worked out. Am sure being able to spread costs across multiple production companies enabled its renewal.

Good episode last night - a lot of advancement.

They still haven't explained why the little girl was taken out into the pouring rain but I think they've kinda explained a lot of everything else. I'm enjoying so far.

I really enjoyed this show, but man, the technobabble is some of the most ridiculous I've ever seen/heard. From showing code as a bunch of spinning cubes of text on a screen, to the daughter saying "I'm using a .net email account... untraceable!".

The latest episode is the one where Anita gasps in the backseat of the car when another program/personality asserts control and they temporarily lose control of the vehicle when she does this, correct? That was indeed a fine hour of TV. I actually think the blonde terminatrix synth is fantastic, and then you also had the synth pick up the shotgun and take-down agents to escape...so many great set-pieces in this episode, one of the better hours of tv I have seen in quite some time.

Does anyone know if there are scenes that are cut for time for the AMC showings?

Well, to be fair, she actually said she was using a "darknet email account", which makes much more sense. And yeah, there was a ton of technobabble on this show, but it didn't take me out of the moment the same way 24 did. Perhaps it's because 24 pushed the "real-time" conceit, whereas Humans takes place in the near future, or perhaps in some parallel universe... or something.

Only cut for time? I doubt it: the show airs on Channel 4 in the UK, which has as many commercials as a US network. Even without that, AMC is pretty flexible: how many episodes of Breaking Bad and Mad Men were actually 50-52 minutes without commercials?

Remember, only the BBC is commercial-free. ITV and Channel 4 have plenty of commercials, as do the cable channels, like Discovery, A&E UK, Turner Europe, AMC International, etc,

Just saw some discussion on this elsewhere: According to the comments sections of some of the reviews for Humans over at The A.V. Club, the AMC airings are missing some scenes that are in the UK versions. I don't know if they were cut for time or for content, but this is the home of Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead, so they're not known for being timid about what they air.

I've had this tab open to share here next time I visited for a few days now. Yes, I know about bookmarks, but who goes back and scans those regularly? If I keep the tab open, it annoys me enough into to do something about it.

Humans series 2: Channel 4 recommissions sci-fi drama

I clicked on a link and it took me down a rabbit hole for a bit. I knew about it being a CH4 co-production and that CH4 is a few weeks ahead (they've already aired the Finale of the season). What I didn't know is it's a remake of a Swedish show called "Real Humans / Äkta människor". That show has already aired 2 seasons and is out on Blu-ray in France.

I might buy the BluRay if they are full/expanded episodes. I love this show.

I thought the reaction to the father banging the synth is the last episode was a bit contrived. Yes, the wife would be upset, but these things come with instructions on how to activate adult mode. You don't think the first thing most guys would do would be to get busy? It certainly wouldn't be the shocking earth shattering surprise.

Other than that though, I'm willing to go with the nebulous tech and just enjoy the show. It's quickly become one of my wife and my favorite things on this summer.

.
Yes. This one of those things where people would definitely have developed new social mores to deal with this situation. A spouse might be upset because this is not supposed to be acceptable within the marriage but no one would be disgusted or shocked at the activity.

Considering there are people disgusted by masturbation, viewing porn, and other rather minor things I can believe some people would be disgusted by sex with robots. I can really believe someone that can get jealous over a machine would probably be one of these people.

The show has not done any character work to suggest that this is a very conservative family in any way.

In fact, I would suggest that this family is absolutely intended to represent a common middle class family coming to terms with the reality that something that was previously a luxury (a live-in maid/cook/nanny) is now an affordable option.

As noted in a previous post, the synth is programmed to be a potential sex partner for its owner. If every synth sold to be a domestic servant comes with the understanding that it is also a potential sex toy, then the idea that anyone would be shocked by the idea is ludicrous.

I think if robots looked and talked and could reason like Anita (not Mia with feelings), almost 100% of wives would have a GIGANTIC issue with their husband sleeping with them.

They "humanized" her quite a bit in the last episode.
