Saw the advanced showing of this show and really enjoyed it. Can't wait to see where it goes and if it can keep this up. While watching I kept getting a Fight Club feeling.

I also saw the preview and I think this is one of the best pilots I've seen in a long time. Doesn't insult your intelligence and has an interesting story/characters. And at last a show with realistic hacking that gets a lot more right than it gets wrong. If psycho-thriller cyber-drama is your cup of tea I couldn't possibly recommend this more.

Looks interesting but what an unfortunate title. Should have called it Gleaming the Cube.

Niels Arden Oplev is the guy that directed the original version of Girl w/ the Dragon Tattoo.

Saw the episode names earlier, they made me laugh:

1 "eps1.0_hellofriend.mov"
2 "eps.1.1_ones-and-zer0es.mpeg"
3 "eps.1.2_d3bug.mkv"

etc; they even have .flv and .asf in there.

I was really not expecting to like this, since I've disliked every USA show, but wow, I thought this was awesome. Complete change of pace for USA.

Sam Esmail's Twitter acct is pretty entertaining, https://twitter.com/samthemovie

And apologized for the KDE vs Gnome convo being out of date. Here's the pilot:

Wow, this was so good. I too totally got a Fight Club vibe. What really got me was the Ferris Wheel scene where the other car suddenly crashed into view in the background. That was expertly shot - movie quality. Kind of made me think of The Third Man.

I only watched the opening minutes of this, but liked what I saw. Definitely had a unique look to it. Recorded the remainder on the spot. Will likely get to it tonight.

Yeah, they definitely benefited from having a feature director do the pilot.

I loved the pilot episode. It felt like a movie. Also really like that they didn't dumb down the technical/computer terminology too much.

I'm in for the season.

I had never seen the lead actor in anything before but I found him very interesting. He alternated between creepy and handsome at any given point during the episode. His character reminded me of Wes Bentley's in American Beauty.

He played Ahkmenrah (the Egyptian pharaoh) in the Night at the Museum movies, I think that whole creepy w/ lighting thing will work to his benefit on here though.

Agreed. I've been talking it up wherever I can. I'm glad to see it's renewed for a Season 2. Hopefully the rest of the Season maintains the quality of the first episode.

As for Christian Slater, I'm not in it for him; He just happens to be there.

I like to think he is playing his character from Pump Up the Volume, only 25 years later.

This was fantastic. I don't get into many new tv shows lately but this was fascinating from beginning to end. Best pilot in a long while. Can't wait for more...

Re: Mr. Robot (USA) - Season 1 Discussion Thread - premieres 6/24/15

This was a very ambitious, well-executed pilot. I have a feeling the script was originally written for a theatrical feature and then re-purposed into this series. The only questionable part is Christian Slater. I have no idea why network executives keep giving him work as a series lead.

This is the baby of Fight Club and The Social Network.

Great pilot, I'm definitely going to keep on top of this one. Slater though does seem to take the wind out of it a bit, at least for me. He isn't bad, but his usual acting style just doesn't go well with the main character. Did anyone else try to use that code? The code was ARJG5P. It said to go to www.whoismrrobot.com, but I couldn't make the code work. Just seemed like promo stuff when you enter in the Help commands.

I agree with the bolded part above, though I have always had a soft spot for the guy. Not sure if it stems from Gleaming the Cube or Heathers.

I just want to give my trivial 'thumbs up' to assist other readers on deciding if they should try it. I'm in.

Cringed when Angela who is supposed to be in the IT department and Elliot's boss? didn't know what a root kit was. Yeah, the evil guy was right to kick her out of the meeting later.

Re: Mr. Robot (USA) - Season 1 Discussion Thread - premieres 6/24/15

^ That should be cringeworthy but more so because it's accurate. A lot of IT people, especially managers in poorly segregated environments, are fucking clueless if it's anything more than Word, E-mail, or basic scripting problem based -- at least in my experience. Alas, weak plot device as you always have to have an idiot in the room.
