Defiance (SyFy) - Season 3 Discussion Thread - premieres 6/12/15
Defiance is the story of a ravaged planet Earth thirty-five years in the future, the lives of its citizens permanently altered following the sudden arrival of seven alien races. In this unknown and unpredictable landscape, the diverse, newly-formed civilization of humans and aliens must learn to co-exist peacefully. Following the events of last season's cliffhanger finale, the series' two-hour Season 3 premiere opens on the eve of an impending military siege - and the surprise arrival of the mysterious and nearly extinct Omec, an alien race of warriors. The new season features cast additions Lee Tergesen (The Americans) as military leader General Rahm Tak, Nichole Galicia (Django Unchained) as Kindzi and Conrad Coates (The Strain) as her father, T'evgin. Returning cast includes Grant Bowler, Julie Benz, Stephanie Leonidas, Tony Curran, Jaime Murray, Graham Greene and Jesse Rath. Kevin Murphy (Desperate Housewives, Caprica) resumes his role as executive producer and showrunner.

enjoyed season 1. Only saw an episode or two of the second season. The second season is now free on Amazon Prime so I may have to catch up.

Very much looking forward to this one - except for having had zilch to watch for weeks, yet today comes Orange Is The New Black's entire third season, two hours of this, an hour of the spiritual successor of Stargate... all in one day!
Trailers I've obsessively devoured these past few months show some interesting premises... one story arc that has bizarre character dynamics, and what happens to the town itself. Curious how that'll play out tonight, plus the new *spoiler*.
Been a good show through the first two seasons, no reason so far to expect that will change this year.

I definitely felt that Season 2 was a letdown from Season 1, I'll give tonight a try in the hopes that it'll be better.

I liked the first episode. Looks like they trimmed the cast a bit. Also they aren't using as much of the white makeup on the aliens.

It looks like they killed off some of the dead weight in the cast, which had gotten bloated. I like the design of the new alien race, even if they are purple space vampires. I only wish Linda Hamilton's character had been killed off as well.
This show has quietly plugged along without much respect, though it's one of the more consistently entertaining summer shows.

And yet they add a ton of dead weight in these purple people eaters. ugh. I mean, I know you don't need miners now that the space vampires are in town with their special gadgets, but that was a whole house that they killed off pretty easily.

Thought it was an excellent start for Season3. Everyone is out for revenge except Irisa.
I agree that they should have cut Linda Hamilton's character who is super annoying, but other than that no complaints. The space vamps seem like they'll be interesting villains. Also, should be good tv to watch Datak and Stahma plot against the new Castithan baddie (and whoever else gets in their way).

I wonder if the female vampire did something to Nolan between his being freed from the pod and waking above ground. He seems pretty aggressive in protecting her.

I understand that he and the mayor had the motivation of wanting to partner up with the aliens for their much-needed mining tech, but it did seem odd that they were so quick to overlook the overt hostility and danger represented by the new aliens. I know they have plenty of reason not to trust the doctor, but I think I'd listen to her and the rest of the town folk that know more about these space vamps.
But you may be on to something, because why else would the vamps bother rescuing Nolan and Irisa from underground and setting them free? They don't really strike me as the good Samaritan type. Maybe the she-vamp did something to Nolan when she licked him...

Was hoping a T-1000 would come along and kill Linda Hamilton's character. Her whole family died because of her.

Tommy's death was one thing but killing off Rafe and Christie defeats the purpose of all the themes that centered around them.

It was cool to hear Linda Hamilton say on the latest Defiance episode, "Come with me if you want to live", straight out of the original Terminator movie which she starred.

I think VHS? is ultimately reacting to the ravages of age. The Terminator debuted 31 years ago, and she naturally no longer looks like she did in promos for that movie.
