It could be worse in Westeros, they could have political attack ads like we have...

Daenerys Targaryen ("Game of Thrones" Political Attack Ads)

Jon Snow ("Game of Thrones" Political Attack Ads)

Stannis Baratheon ("Game of Thrones" Political Attack Ads)

Holy Shit!

The Dany/Tyrion scene was enough, but the return of the White Walkers was fantastic.

Awesome episode. No bad scenes but one missed opportunity:
Spoiler:
having the giant rise out of the water as a Wight, closeup on the eyes, then cut to black. I should be a show consultant.

Fuckin' A! That's what I shouted when Jon's sword stopped the White Walker's blade, to the surprise of them both.

Holy crap. Unlike the battle at the Wall from last season, I had no idea what was coming in this episode. A huge surprise.

So what's the deal with that sword that killed the white walker?...only if it's been mentioned in the show up until this point (not from the books).

Awesome ep. Glad that the show runners know what to cut and what little details can make a difference to a reader, like actually naming Wun Wun. I don't know what kind of money D&D have for this series, but they sure know how to make it stretch.

This series has pretty much stomped the books in terms of pace and quality IMHO. It's a shame Martin can't overcome his block and write something this awesome anymore.

Valyrian Steel, it's very rare as they can't be made anymore. In the TV show there are
- Jon's sword he got from Lord Commander Mormont
- the dagger used in the attempt to kill Bran
- Ned's sword Ice which was melted down and reforged to make the sword Jaime gave Brienne and the other one is presumably with Tommen.

I think that's it.

Kill Wun Wun? Screw that. He's the only one I cared about surviving that scene.

Yep, that was really awesome.

I had to verify, but yeah, episode 8, those are usually great.

Re: Game of Thrones (S5E08) -- "Hardhome" -- 5/31/15

Now that's how you adapt a book.

For a few minutes, I wondered if that Wildling Chieftainess would end up being the show's version of Val (one of the few excised characters that I actually miss), but I guess not.

So Sansa knows her younger brothers aren't dead, and if she ever gets to talk to Brienne she'll know her sister's not dead either. Things are looking up...except for the nightly brutal humiliation at the hands of Ramsey.

Tyrion advising Dany certainly explains Ser Barristan's early death.

Now that was a bad ass episode.

I think there are a bunch of valerian steel swords left in the world. It has been mentioned before that it was a prestigious thing for a great house to own. There I even the smith who was brought in to rework Ice, him being the last person who still knows how to work it leads me to believe their must be several others. Probably dozens if not more.

Valyrian steel has been mentioned roughly 250 times in this show. They've also shown Valyria itself, talked about the Doom of Valyria and mentioned that the Targaryens are from Valyria. The fact that Valyrian steel can defeat a white walker is news, though.

Further non-spoiler context for non-readers (all of this is explained in HBO's show guides): Dragonstone, that insane fantasy castle out in the middle of the water where Stannis was originally holed up, was the Targaryen seat after the Doom of Valyria. The Targaryens used unclear technology (possibly magic?) to build the place which is why it's so bizarre looking. It's actually the most impressive keep in all of the Seven Kingdoms but it's offshore: giving it to Stannis was both an honor and a method to get him out of the way. What exactly happened in the Doom of Valyria is unclear but the "event" destroyed the entire city state. King's Landing is called King's Landing because it's where the Targaryens originally came ashore when they took over the Seven Kingdoms.

Best episode of the season. All of the setup is paying off, as per usual in episode 8 of GoT.

Note for show watchers: we are now so far off books that there is very, very little left to spoil. We're all on basically even footing.

That was insane. Definitely edge of your seat stuff. I'm not usually too excited about battle scenes. I prefer scenes such as between Tyrion and Daenerys. However, this battle was very tense, with maybe a few too many close ups and cuts to follow completely. Overall, really happy with this episode. Can't believe we are actually getting past the books.

Re: Game of Thrones (S5E08) -- "Hardhome" -- 5/31/15

We've known the white walkers were dangerous, but seeing their army in full force this episode was the first time the show has really demonstrated their power en masse. I'm not sure how I feel about the "zombie" element of the whole thing, but the scene was first rate. The effects and sound work on those wide shots with the fog rolling in over the mountains was arguably the best this show has done.

Loved everything else about the episode too.

Various wiki sites for both book series and tv show list 10 blades in existence that have a known whereabouts and 7 others with unknown whereabouts.
