Watched the run in the link. That was hilarious. This is what I used to like about the original Japanese version. We'd see all the weird characters with their failed runs and less of the backstories.

The deadpan commentary is hilarious on that T Rex run.

I wonder what happened between Brent and Kacy? NBC handled the break-up in their typical phony manner, though both Brent and Kacy are fully invested in being part of the Ninja Warrior show in selling themselves.

Neither looked in great shape for their runs. It would be interesting to know when the split occurred, considering they co-own a gym together and were practically a single brand the past few years on the show.

I did not like the show skipping over David Campbell's run almost completely, the third-fastest time of the night. NBC seems obsessed pushing Daniel Gil on the audience.

Re: American Ninja Warrior (2016) -- NBC

It's about time she dumped that guy. My phone should be ringing any minute now.

Interesting they own the gym together and are broken up. Feel sorry for the next people they date. Hi, you don't have to worry but I see my ex every day at work because we own a gym together, and are a co-brand on ANW, and both of us are too poor to buy the other one out, and we're still really good friends, and....but don't worry.

If this is taped I'm not sure why they would have successful runs during commercial breaks and run a 5 minute backstory on someone who falls on the second obstacle.

They were teammates for Team Ninja Warrior, but I noticed she had somebody else cheering her on for the special All-Star ANW episode at the beginning of this season. Of course, we have no idea when that was filmed in relation to this season.

I believe the All-star special was filmed relatively recently, like in May just before this season began. Team Ninja Warrior was shot back in December-January, maybe even earlier, if I remember correctly.

I really thought the big announcement was going to be Brent and Kacy's engagement. She's a big star on ANW, having gotten several lucrative endorsements since her first amazing run. She's making more money off ANW than any other contestant.

Mighty Kacy strikes out again. Good riddance ... No wildcard please. They need to focus on new talent.

To be fair, that rolling log obstacle was basically impossible at her size. The key to beating it was keeping your center of gravity back while minimizing your vertical jump height between each log.

The bigger disappointment was Brent, who once again failed on a relatively easy obstacle. I get the feeling he's not training regularly for Ninja Warrior anymore.

No kidding. Just go away.

My wife and I joked that if you drank a shot every time they mentioned or showed Kacy's face you would be dead a half hour into the 2 hour show. And that is just on shows that she doesn't run and fail in.

Although she did really well on her episode of Broken Skull Challenge this past year (didn't win but did well for her size and weight). Way better than Brent did who got knocked off in his first challenge.

Re: American Ninja Warrior (2016) -- NBC

"The Kacy Situation" is getting more and more awkward. I was impressed by her initial run, but NBC's relentless pimping of her has become obnoxious, particularly since Meghan Martin has exceeded her stats on ANW (correct me if I'm wrong). I'm also more impressed by Jessie Graf. I don't blame Kacy for taking advantage of whatever opportunities are presented to her, but she sort of looks embarrassed (or maybe I'm projecting), and I found my self more interested in her break-up than in her actual performance. It's time for NBC to back another horse.

Heck, there have been women given the "while we were away" treatment who made it further than Kacy this season. I actually feel bad for her as they put so much pressure on her to pull off another amazing run that it just adds extra focus to her failures.

Re: American Ninja Warrior (2016) -- NBC

NBC won't let their narrative go away that easy. Kacy did put up a couple of thrilling runs considering her size and I think the pressure on her is enormous. She's the only ninja to ever become more famous than the show itself.

NBC sets itself up for failure by hyping up every name runner, only for them to fall at some point. It's why you don't see real sports marketing their game this way.

This also happened on "Team Ninja Warrior". Most of the highly-hyped names didn't make it past one episode (often not their fault since each team was only as strong as it's weakest link).

Re: American Ninja Warrior (2016) -- NBC

Member of Bills staff scheduled to appear on "American Ninja Warrior" -
Alan Pergament (@StillTalkinTV) - Buffalo News TV Critic - Monday, June 27.

Dan Liburd, a member of the Buffalo Bills strength and conditioning staff, is on the list to appear on Monday night's episode of “American Ninja Warrior,” an NBC spokesperson confirmed. A two-hour edition of “American Ninja Warrior” starts at 9:00 pm ET Monday on Channel 2, the local NBC affiliate.

Liburd was one of the Western New Yorkers who attempted to qualify recently at the Philadelphia tryouts for the program. According to the Bills website, Liburd has been with the Bills for six years, oversees the team’s nutrition and dietary program and assists with supervising the athletes with strength and conditioning.

NBC said Dave Kozak, a 69-year old Vietnam veteran from Buffalo who also tried out for the program in Philadelphia, didn’t make it into the episode.

Update - Alan Pergament (@StillTalkinTV) - Buffalo News TV Critic - Tuesday, June 28 -

Alan Liburd, a member of the Buffalo Bills strength and conditioning staff, was on for about 10 seconds of the two-hour NBC program.
(LaxBandit - His appearance happens about 72 minutes into the program.)
He must have done pretty well to get to the fifth and hardest obstacle, but the program only showed his fall.

At the start Monday night, it showed a pair of wrestling twins identified as being from Fayetteville, Ark.
One brother, Max Soria, said being a twin “is like having a built-in best friend. We are always there for each other.”
You might have expected Max and his brother Mike would have performed on the program. They didn’t.

It is difficult to understand some of the editing decisions of the program.

During the program, the University at Buffalo athletic department tweeted that the Sorias wrestled for UB.
After the program ended, UB Athletics tweeted that Mike Soria finished 12th and qualified for the next round.
Maybe we’ll see him then and hear more of the twins’ story.

That was stupid of Stratis to participate with a newly fixed shoulder that soon after surgery. He looked in serious pain during his run. Britton pointed out how challenging that opening round was even for him. They seem to be building up hype for his streak of seven consecutive buzzers hit.

Only saw a few of the later runs. I though that teacher was going to make it all the way. Someone must write their puns. Last night they had some real crappy ones.

I think they've made the product more watchable this ANW season than before. The editing has gotten tighter and generally the whole production has been slicker.

I haven't been a fan of the much tougher first-round courses. I want to see parkour athletes powering through the course very quickly, which is impossible with several upper body obstacles. Even seasoned pros are taking several minutes to beat the course. I have no problem if they had made round two this level of difficulty.

The show needs them. It would be boring as fuck without it. They need to build some emotional attachment to some contestants. Otherwise why give a fuck about who may or not make it. It would basically just be a bunch of Youtube type clips then.

With all these people training specifically for the event I suppose they had to toughen it up a bit. Unfortunately I like seeing the women compete and I think the level of difficulty in the first round will keep them out of the later rounds.

I agree they need to get the audience invested emotionally in the competitors' stories. If you feel you know them you're more invested in the show, just like any reality series. It just slows the show down to a crawl to do a several minute introspective on someone who bombs on the second obstacle then "while we were away" some joe blow blazes through and we missed it.

Yes get to know the competitors, but not every single story about some tragedy etc

The segments are just too long

btw SASUKE 32 just aired in Japan

Also, here is Kacy Catanzaro's run from SASUKE 32, which I don't think was shown in the main program.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjO1P7lPSpQ

Spoiler:
Even without finishing the stage, this was a much more impressive display of her skills than the last few ANW runs have been. As the Japanese runners are generally smaller, I think this course just plays to her size better.

Great run, and thats a better course too. ANW has turned into grip strength challenge.

It has made me believe that if there is an apocalypse, rock climbers will rule the earth!

I am not a rock climber.
