"Deadliest Catch" season 11 -- 4/14/15

They still manage to keep things fresh after all these years.

During a fireworks display, the Hansen brothers stole Capt. Wild Bill's boat and moved it to the other side of the dock. Bill has a pretty short temper but he kept it together when he realized his boat had been jacked. It was pretty funny.

The quota has been greatly increased, so needless to say they are working like dogs. The Northwestern ran for 2 days straight, non-stop. Sig passed out in the wheelhouse. And Edgar's future is in doubt because of a seriously deteriorating back. The Northwestern finally has a new greenhorn because its crew is aging. Nick turned 50, Norman, Edgar and Matt are all in their mid-40s. So they needed a new body.

Keith and Jonathan formed an alliance after an ex-partner screwed Keith. Let's see how long THAT lasts.

And the Cornelia Marie continues to have problems. The engine was busted and they lost a week of fishing waiting for parts.

To the surprise of no one, Elliot is still a loser.

11 years later and I still love this show. You can't script bad fishing and bad weather.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for it every year. Looking forward to seeing Elliot self-destruct again.

Re: "Deadliest Catch" season 11 -- 4/14/15

So is anyone watching? It's a good season. It's funny to see the Wizard and Time Bandit work together and it didn't blow up.

Edgar Hansen is out with degenerative cervical discs in his neck. Just looking at that MRI I knew he was in trouble.

Elliot Nees has gotten his shit together. No more whining, no more drama, and he is kicking ass.

Keith had an attempted mutiny on his boat. There was one poor performing greenhorn and another tried to pull a 'either he goes or I go,' which did not go over well. Now both greenhorns are going as soon as they hit the dock.

The Cornelia Marie is cursed. Just one mechanical problem after another in constant fashion. And Jake Harris has not gotten clean, either. In one episode, Josh was called to his father's old house, which had been left as it was after Phil's death, and he saw signs of Jake breaking in and stealing stuff. Personally i would murder Jake for daring to steal Phil's stuff to sell to buy drugs.

Yeah, I wondered why Jake Harris hadn't been mentioned anywhere. Keith is awesome - he goes from zero to 100mph in a microsecond. Shortest fuse I've ever seen.

Yeah, can't believe that deckhand would give Keith an ultimatum. Has he never seen the show?

I assume there's no Seabrooke this year because of Jr's back surgery? Wonder if he needed the year to recover.

I literally stopped watching the Deadliest Catch because I grew tired of the nonsense with Jake Harris.

No word on Jr. He was a wreck when he appeared on The Bait last season. When Jonathan Hilstrand points out you're a mess, you got a problem.

The cast is really great at live tweeting during the show. Andy Hilstrand replied to me once. I'll ask next Tuesday what became of Jr.

Is there a video of that (can't find it)?

It's a shame that Jake has gone so far off the deep end. He and Josh could have been (could still be?) like Sig & Edgar; captain and deck boss.

Couldn't find it either, but I did find this neat interview with Jr.

A few spoilers I read about Opilio season. These may or may not be true ...

Spoiler:

Elliot falls off the wagon again and ends up having to let Jake Anderson captain the boat.
Jake Harris returns (with a captain's licence) and runs the boat with Josh.

Can someone explain exactly what was going on with Elliot and that Scott guy last night? I was watching but doing some other things at the same time and got confused.

Seems like they scored some drugs and probably got drunk as well. Both were supposed to be "clean".

Ok, I couldn't tell if Elliot just sold him drugs of he gave him money to but them both some or what not. It wasn't 100% clear to me whether Elliot fell off or not. Seemed like those two guys only gave the Scott guy the real ass chewing, and not so much Elliot.

It wasn't Elliot he met up with; it was someone random. Scott was definitely messed up.

Can't believe he did that in front of the cameras.

Re: "Deadliest Catch" season 11 -- 4/14/15

Yeah I guess I was confused at the part where Scott was in the captains chair telling someone to watch what they say, then next he was walking out of Elliot's room showing Elliot counting cash.

I'm assuming he was talking to a drug dealer and then gave Elliot some and Elliot was paying him. All around brilliance anyway it happened.

Elliot tweeted out that he spent 2 months in Passages Malibu and says he's clean. Hope so.

Re: "Deadliest Catch" season 11 -- 4/14/15

Well for the first time, I'm wondering if I'm seeing something contrived. The Time Bandit took on a greenhorn who was a complete psycho that bullied one guy off the boat and bullied and harassed the rest of the crew and even threatened Jonathan when Jon told him to chill. Finally, Jon called the crew in and told them they could have some rack time and he turned the boat and headed for St. Paul Island and threw the guy off.

Thing is, he did come off as a real nut. Either this guy is a future mass murderer or even DC is getting scripted, something it never needed. It always had its own organic drama.

He was no greenhorn, he was a 37 y/o very experienced crabber who seemed like he was completely nuts. I wondered a couple of times if it was contrived but this is the one reality show that I think still has a semblance of reality to it.

It seemed real to me. The guy was crazy and in his mind was a TV star already. He was playing up the cameras but I don't think it was scripted.

I wish they would have pointed out the TV cameras to him when he thought he was being so clever with his pictures of the pots.

Never mind the crazy guy. What's with Jake having basically his whole family in the birthing room with him and his wife ? Probably a good thing she went for a Caesarean. At least she got a little privacy that way.

Re: "Deadliest Catch" season 11 -- 4/14/15

If that was all real, then that guy is probably lucky it was on camera because I get the impression the Hillstrands and crew would have dealt with him very differently without cameras present.

I think it's time Anderson got his own boat. Sig was running the Northwestern when he was 22. Jake is 30, albeit far more emotional.

What I wonder about is how long the Northwestern crew will last. Nick is 50, Norman is in his mid 40s, Matt is in his mid-40s and Edgar is a busted mess. He's been tweeting out the x-rays of his neck and you can see those cervical discs are a wreck.

Update on Norman's neck. Man those xrays look bad.
