Kept thinking of "Argo" when the two old bastards came on lol. I liked it, I had a few chuckles here and there. Grew up watching the old show as a kid, so it also brought back some memories.

Re: The Muppets (ABC) - Season 1 Thread - Premieres 9/22/15

I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected. I laughed several times. Animal's "Too many women, too many towns" line had me going as well as the Elizabeth Banks tour fight. Jere Burns' bear insults were great too.

The premise is a bit tired by now but "problems that arise while The Muppets are trying to put on a show" has been a Muppets staple from the beginning. Seems only natural that this is the next step for them.

I enjoyed the premiere. Line of the night for me was "Scooter, regular salami will do." I'm in for more.

i really liked it. i liked that it wasn't kiddy and had some good adult humor. like they were catering to all the kids who grew up with the show who are now adults. i'm in.

Loved it, but I missed Walter.

Favorite exchange was Scooter & Banks.
Scooter: "So what do you do?"
Banks: "I'm an actor"
Scooter: "Good, act like you're enjoying the tour."

Exactly. There have been articles and anecdotal stories about how the Muppets just don't attract the kids today, at least not the same way as they did in the 70s. This show is definitely more for us. Although I have to wonder how people my age with kids feel about it, as there's no doubt they're forcing their offspring, Clockwork Orange-style, to watch it. "C'mon kids, it's the MUPPETS. You HAVE to watch it". Only to hear Zoot make an AA reference, Animal brag about all the chicks he's hooked up with, and Fozzie mentioning a gay fetish.

Oh, and I did get a kick out of Kermit opening the show with "Let's get things started".

Re: The Muppets (ABC) - Season 1 Thread - Premieres 9/22/15

While it wasn't the funniest episode of TV, I do enjoy the premise. I've heard upcoming episodes are better. Which actually makes sense. Shows like The Office (US), 30 Rock and Parks and Rec also started slowly and a bit awkwardly for me. And I already like all of these characters, so it's got a leg up on those shows.

I did love Tom Bergeron being willing to poke fun at himself. And that they kept not noticing he was around

It was okay but except for one or two moments, I didn't find it funny. I'll give it a few more episodes to improve.

not bad. kinda disappointed they recast Fozzie's girlfriend from the teasers/trailers (Margo Harshman) with the Riki Lindhome. Nothing wrong with lindhome, i just really really dig harshman.

if you've got a 5.1 setup the exchange ends on a funny note as Banks pushes Scooter and he lands and 'oofs' just off to your left shoulder off-screen.

Same here. I was bummed that Garfunkel and Oates didn't make it a second season. Of course, now when I see Riki Lindhome, all I can think about is the movie Hell Baby. Not that that's a bad thing, mind you...

I thought it was hilarious. Glad they decided to have the humor age with the people who grew up watching the original.

Harshman has been a semi-regular on NCIS. She might not have been available.

Not a great episode, but enough to keep me coming back. I love the Muppets.

If you look at Fozzie, he's also dressed differently. From what I understand though, the footage with Harshman is from the 11 minute proof of concept reel. ABC didn't greenlight the show until after they saw the 11 minute reel. The teasers were all cut from that footage until they actually had enough "real" footage to create proper promos.

So, like someone else said, Harshman was probably only available for the brief shooting of the reel but not available for the show itself.

And even the concept of the show changed slightly from the reel. Now, they work on a late night show starring Miss Piggy. Also, for those confused by the adult humor: The first season of the original show was aimed at adults, the Muppets appeared on SNL, and even the movie had a few jokes aimed at older audiences. This new show is going back to those roots which makes it even more fun since the jokes are presented in a way to go over kids' heads.

I enjoyed it a lot and the break up scene with Kermit and Piggy did have some emotional weight.

It's pretty well known that young American children today are so used to 3-D CGI and dazzled by it that they find most other forms of animation and puppetry somewhat dull and boring. I really wonder if very young children today will respond to the Muppets.

I watched this with my 6 year old daughter who loves the Muppets. We both enjoyed it, and I didn't think it was inappropriate at all. All that stuff sailed right over her head.

Re: The Muppets (ABC) - Season 1 Thread - Premieres 9/22/15

I liked what they did, but still am surprised there wasn't more of the old formula mixed int there. Even the movies managed to do that.

To make matters worse, the one musical element that had was a terrible piece with Imagine Dragons. I like Imagine Dragons and was looking forward to seeing what they would do with them.

Hopefully future episodes will get better in that regard.

Thought that was pretty disappointing. The whole Office/larry Sanders gimmick just doesn't work for me.
Yeah, exact same here on both counts. And it was especially awkward watching it w/my son who loves all things Muppets. Maybe I didn't read up enough on this ahead of time, but it was just way too odd at times and he ended up wandering away to do something else. I mean, it felt like half the show was about dating--just didn't work for me.

It never bothered me that a frog was dating a pig, but Fozzie with a human gf just seems wrong.

If they use Walter, then they are just printing money for Jason Segel.
