Because they ran out of ammo seems a reasonable assumption to me.
Comic spoiler
Probably the bad people came and took the time to reset the trap before killing the people in the car. Assuming people in car used up all their ammo and bad people are pointing guns at them.
It wasn't the townspeople who painted it.
Comic spoiler
Spoiler:
If you were in a car, surrounded by hordes of zombies with your life in imminent danger, why would you take time to write a note saying bad people are coming? How would you even know that?
If your town had just been pillaged and burned, why would you paint a message saying "Wolves not far"?

Hard to tell when the only real city referenced is Atlanta and they basically hung out around there for multiple seasons.
I'm drawing a blank, where did Morgan get the map?

Right but last time he was milling about was outside Gabriel's church. Isn't that somewhere north of Atlanta? That's when Rick's group hopped in vehicles and drove to the DC vicinity.

I think we will get a Morgan Stand alone episode since he has gone through a significant change. I don't think they would reveal it in a conversation. My guess is he meets someone who changes his outlook (stated by Lonnie James), loose them to walkers and He sets off to find Rick. I am guessing he finds a vehicle to takes to DC. The car he put the wolves in might even have been the one he came in.

Finally caught up. Easily the WORST half season so far !
The sasha character was ridiculous, terrible acting
You can tell they have really run out about how Rick's group interacts with new groups
hopefully the set up is for a better next season

Well, everyone, like other things, has an opinion. Maybe they'll get back to just walking around everywhere with nothing happening like S2 so you'll be happy again.

I'm on S6E01 and Rick is an asshole. What the preacher said was totally spot on. The community that survived this long is lost without him. This is his community and he'll kick those people out if he needs to. They need to be killed, etc (please don't include anything beyond S5). These last couple of episodes and the first 10 mins of S6 ep 1 were enough to make me disgusted by him.
