Bates Motel (S3E2) - "The Arcanum Club" - 3/16/2015
Synopsis:
Dylan and Caleb meet a new neighbor.
Season 3, Episode 2
I like how vague the episode descriptions are for this show.

Jesus, who's the psycho now? Norma gets more unhinged with each episode.
Nice wiggle in that dress, though.
Any bets that Emma dies when she and Norman have sex?

I thought tonight was pretty good again overall. The season seems off to a more solid start than the second season to me. I liked the stuff between Norman and Emma. It definitely seems like the only reason he's dating her is to make himself seem normal and their date was awkward, especially when sex was brought up. I don't think Norman kills her but I think she's going to realize what he is soon.
Norma's story and being concerned about Annika was good for the most part. I wonder how much longer she'll be able to deny what Norman does given the ending. She knows but isn't admitting it obviously and Romero will piece it together after realizing that Norman is now up to three victims.
Honestly while I do get that the series is about Norman and the fact that he is psycho I sort of wish that Annika wouldn't have been killed off or at least not so early on. It just seems predictable and gives an idea of what the bulk of the season will be about. It does raise the question a bit to me as to how long the series can last. I would think five or six seasons tops or else it'll get old unless things get shaken up in a big way.
The Dylan and Caleb stuff with the mountain man guy I'm not sure I get. I'm sure it's just setting up a conflict but it felt a bit forced to me. I still think Dylan's storylines tend to be the weakest parts of the series.

Opie!! That made me so happy.
This season is off to a great start. I am glad they are focusing on what we care the most about, aka Norma and Norman. Everything else, including the awesome Romero, needs to take a back seat.

Dylan is going to play a role in Norman's transformation. They just have to keep him around.
Who was the mountain man? That guy was creepier than Highmore.

Might just be wishful thinking, but looking at the body, it looks like it might not be Annika. Annika was wearing a dress that didn't seem like she would be wearing the camisole the body in the water had.
Who was the actor playing the mountain man? He seemed familiar.
Also, the dude sitting in the chair that Norma saw through the window. Who was that? I definitely recognize him, but can't place him.

The Mountain Man was Ryan Hurst aka Opie from Sons of Anarchy
The guy watching the orgy was Kevin Rahm, who most of you know played Ted on Mad Men.
Hoping the body wasn't Annika. I'd like to see Tracy Spiradakos again.

Ah, of course. Ted!
Haven't seen SOA, and looking at his IMDB profile, I don't think I remember him from anything else. He must remind me of someone else.
Agreed an Annika!

Now you get Parental advisory warnings before a episode.
I thought Norma would have slammed through the gate in the beginning to get past that guard lol.
I wonder how the series would have turned out if HBO or Showtime picked it up.

Normal knows. He killed his father after alL. Normally wants to protect him but is so damaged she doesn't really know what to do.

Both scenes with Vera and Nestor were excellent. Those two work very well together.
Anyone notice Vera is now credited as a producer?

I'm pretty sure she's been credited as a producer since the beginning. If not, she definitely was last season.
They need to start scheduling until 10:01pm or cut commercials. 2 weeks in a row my DVR cut out. I guess I'll need to pad.

I pretty much start and end any show that I DVR a few minutes before or after the timeslot its scheduled for.

Regarding DVR scheduling, yeah, I pad this show with 4 minutes. I noticed last night that it was past the 2 minute mark, so was glad I did.
The only problem with padding is that ( since my PVR only has 2 tuners) if I'm recording 2 shows immediately afterward a show with padding, it can screw up one of my recordings.
^Yes, as dex14 stated.

Another solid episode. The season is off to a great start. Those interactions between Norman and Norma are seriously creepy.

Emma has always been in the dark about Norman's true nature. I wonder what happens if she ever discovers his secrets.

Just caught up, Opie seems like he's aged a lot since SOA.
I enjoyed his Of Mice & Men reference, but I couldn't quite figure out who he meant to be Lenny out of Caleb and his dad. They seem more like two Lennys. Like that SNL sketch with Chris Farley and John Malckovich.
