I'm pretty sure Saul palmed cash to the billboard guy during the handshake as well. I was pretty much on to the billboard scam when he started his climb.

Thanks, it was bugging me, was stuck in my head even today, nice track. Didn't know it was Dave Brubeck, I love Time Out.

Loved the little foreshadowing with Saul checking out the garish orange dress shirt and tie, since that's the way he ends up dressing during Breaking Bad. And maybe there will be a pivotal episode where Saul discovers Bluetooth.

this show is amazing. I love the little call forwards to Breaking Bad. Walking Jimmy slowly evolve into Saul Goodman is masterclass. Everything is working for me.

I liked that too. Little things like that as nods to what's to come are nice touches to this series thus far. It should be interesting seeing the change from Jimmy to Saul over the course of the series.

Fantastic episode. Love this show. I agree that he had the whole thing planned out before the billboard even went up.
Always good to see Kevin Weisman (Marshall Flinkman) too, even if it was for one scene.

Don't have really much else to add from what has been said already.
Series in my book is definitely 4 for 4.
Loved the whole "Rescue" sequence with Jimmy. I too sort of saw that it was staged once the guy said..."Took you long enough" and then the handshake was probably the passing of some money.
Loved the open with the S'All Good Man line.
The newspaper stealing scene with Chuck was a little odd though.

Yeah, honestly I had no interest in this show whatsoever. From the moment it was announced I thought it was a joke or fake rumor, and when I learned is was real I didn't think it would be any good. How can Saul - a great character, but come on - be entertaining for an entire episode? An entire season? His own show?
But the positive impressions took my by surprise so I watched it, and it's way way better than it should be. Vince really is a genius, because while this show doesn't have as great a premise as Breaking Bad, it's just as good in terms of quality. I love everything about the direction they've taken with the show so far.

My favorite part was actually where Jimmy/Saul was telling Nacho how he actually helped him by telling the family because he was doing some really stupid shit. I like it when characters are smart.

You mean some good samaritan who was probably just worried about the kids. Saul would never rat out Nacho.

Re: Better Call Saul (S1E04) -- "Hero" -- 2/23/15
So, in the cold open, did Jimmy really "risk" $1000 on the off chance that his mark would have some cash on him and take the watch instead of the wallet? Seems like risking $1000 to earn an extra $(unknown) is not the best odds. Unless we're to assume the wallet cash was counterfeit...

We have a new color code on #BetterCallSaul. As a rule, hotter colors are associated with crime. You figure out the rest.

And I'm in in whatever vince does from here on out. Saw the ad for battle creak when I was watching this ep, and immediately set to record.

Also, Jimmy poked his accomplice with a pretty large stick and left it by him. A nice weapon if they needed to go to plan B.

I think the $1000 is a bit much (and probably for the audience) - If there is $100 in the wallet, I think the scam would also work... it is all about greed and even if the guy didn't have a lot of $$ in his wallet to get the watch there is always "I can go to the ATM and get you money"
I also think the passed out guy 'waking up' (and he was a good size guy) would be plan B.

Re: Better Call Saul (S1E04) -- "Hero" -- 2/23/15
so do you think Gilligan and Co have been holding back the "s'all good man" line since BB or do you think it was just written for this series?
seems like too great of a line to have held on to
or maybe they just stole it from a t-shirt/novelty company or something

I am surprised that many are taken aback by the one liner s'all good man. I picked up on it during Breaking Bad and found it pretty funny then. Never felt they needed to add a line in to explain it during Breaking Bad. I liked the way they handled it on this how though. Felt natural and not a forced way to explain the eventual name. The show is as great as i hoped it would be.

Yeah, I kind of thought it was obvious. I think it may even have been mentioned in one of the BB threads.

In the Breaking Bad Insider podcast after Odenkirk's first episode, Vince Gilligan suggested that the name of the lawyer was going to be "Saul Goode" as in "s'all good." Someone else suggested tweaking it to "s'all good, man"
